I am interested in having a bet on the Dockers to make the 8 and IMO they represent great value at around $1.90 at the moment.

Being in Victoria I don't get to see a lot of your games, so before I place my bet I would appreciate your opinions on the following players. (Ie: Position, Improvement etc)

Andrew Browne
Ben Cunningham
Antoni Grover
Daniel Haines
Robert Haddrill
Andrew Siegert

Browne - Like the look of him. Pacey and gets a fair bit of it but let down by his kicking. Often looks rushed, but could secure a spot on the bench this year based on pre-season form.

Cunners - Tries hard but is a pretty awful kick. Like Browne, gets enough of it, but is totally one-sided and seems to get a bit flustered when in possession.

Grover - Quick rebounding defender. Nothing flashy about him but he's strong, a good mark and offers pace and a big hoof out of defence. Can't recall a game where he got towelled.

Haines - Currently injured. Tenacious sort, very good tackler and has shown he can be dangerous on the burst.

Haddrill - The best of this lot. I think he finished fourth in the Doig Medal last year, beaten only by Bell, Pav and Haze. One of the better fullbacks going around and will only improve. Great on the rebound.

Siegert - A bit of an unknown quantity for me. Has been used to some effect in a tagging role but will probably struggle for a regular spot this year.

Not really,

I'm looking for your players that will make the next step!

I can't possibly see how you (Fremantle) can not improve on last year and hence I think that $1.90 is cash in the bank! I can't see how you will not make the eight! So I was wondering if I was missing something that the bookmakers might know. You still play your home games in WA right? :D So I started to have a look through your list and noticed a few players who we in Victoria we see very little of, and I guess just become curious as to their development.

Thanks for your views

Luke Webster is another one.

Tough and hard at it - quite fast, was the shining light in the loss v Ess in Sept.
Unfortunately did his knee the next week playing in the WAFL and has had a full reco.
According to CC should be ready to go by round 10. Should (hopefully) get a run in the second half of the season - would love to see this guy step up as I reckon he has talent.

$1.90 would seem to be money for jam. ;)

Yep the odds for Freo offered by the bookies at the moment are pretty good, with I think Freo on the 10th line of betting to make the 8.

How they arrived at these odds I'm not too sure, but I do know that the Vic media have pumped the Hawk and Saints tyres up alot before they have done anything.

With the listed Dockers, we would expect improvement from Browne (more game time), Grover (more run down ground) and Haddrill (more confidence with experience). I think Cunninham will be consigned to the WAFL, but Siegert and Haines could go either way when fit.

Yep, Haddrill is one of our most important players. Grover is a nice player to have and is probably just in our best 22. Browne is young and developing and just outside our 22 at the moment. Haines and Siegert are a bit further behind and I can't see either of them getting more than a handful of games this year (unless we get a lot of injuries). Can't see Cunningham getting a game this year.

Andrew Browne - A pacey, tough midfielder who wins plenty of the footy and will certainly get more game time this year. All things being even, he should start most games on the bench and add depth to our midfield. His disposal has been suspect in the past, but he has worked on it over the pre-season and looks set for an improved year.

Ben Cunningham - Never been a fan of his. He is extremely one-sided, has poor decision making skills and is suspect under pressure. I don't think he can add much to our best 22 now or in the future.

Antoni Grover - A dashing defender with a raking kick who usually does his job. His last year was interrupted by injury but he has played well in the pre-season games so far. He was one of our best in the EF against Essendon last year which shows he doesn't crumble under pressure or when the going gets tough.

Daniel Haines - A tough midfielder who struggled to make it into our best 22 last year and faces a make-or-break season. He generally has good poise, great courage over the footy and is generally a good decision maker. His disposal lets him down at times but he is one of our best tacklers and I'd be disappointed if he didn't play at least 12 games this season, which would be a modest improvement on his seven games in 2003 and nine games in 2002.

Robert Haddrill - Without a doubt our most improved player last season. He was rock solid at full back and was rarely beaten to form the nucleus of (what was initially) our 'no-name backline'.

Andrew Siegert - I have my doubts. He is a good size and has generally been used as a defensive midfielder in the past but I think 2004 may be his last season on our list.

Luke Webster - A solidly built midfielder who is tough, knows how to win the footy and is strong overhead. He was (in my opinion) in our best three players in the EF against Essendon, and would most likely start on the bench when completely fit.
