Carlton
Who are the best kids in this years draft in your opinion. The top 6 (at this stage) I think would look something like this. Many things still to be considered such as what will Murphy do, will Ellis nominate, will Hawthorn go after a tall player early which is the rumour at the moment, etc, etc. Anyways here we go:

1. Marc Murphy - Carlton
2. Xavier Ellis - Collingwood
3. Mitch Clark - Hawthorn
4. Shannon Hurn - Carlton
5. Beau Dowler - Collingwood
6. Travis Varcoe - Hawthorn

We need another pick in the top 10 (maybe for Whitnall) so that we can snare someone like Nathan Jones, Josh Kennedy, Pat Ryder, Marcus Drum, etc. Thoughts?

This is how I rate them: (not a mock draft)

1. Murphy
2. Hurn
3. Ellis
4. Ryder
5. Clark
6. Kennedy
7. Dowler
8. Varcoe
9. Drum
10. Swallow

This is my mock draft as of today: (It changes everyday ;) )

1. Carlton- Murphy
2. Collingwood- Ellis
3. Hawthorn- Hurn
4. Carlton- Ryder (best tall IMO)
5. Collingwood- Varcoe
6. Hawthorn- Clark
7. Essendon- Kennedy
8. Richmond- Dowler
9. Brisbane- Swallow (might be scared of drafting another WA player though)
10. Fremantle- Jones

In order.

Murphy
Ellis
Hurn
Ryder
Drum
Kennedy
Clark
Dowler
Swallow
Jones

Pick 1) Murphy/Ellis in order of want.

Pick 4) Hurn/Ryder/Drum/Kennedy in order.

Pick 20) Spangher/Lucy.

Hard to say what the other clubs will do.

That could happen with the bulldogs. Whitnall for pick 11. I think with whitnall under Eade he could be great for us next year in our forward line with Darcy and Grant. He has shown he can play down back as well.

We need Murphy and Lucy. I played with Austin Lucy for five years, I know what he is capable of. His natural position isn't full-back, but he plays excellent in the full-back position. He has genuine pace, which Carlton is lacking in the mid-field department. Also, he is quick of the mark and he earned our leading goalkicker award 5 times in 6 years. Basically he is a player who can adapt to any position, a utility, a damn good utility, and Carlton needs a player of Lucy's capabilities.

That;s great to hear mate. Thanks for the insight. Ive heard big wraps on him and also that Carlton have been talking to him. Can he actually play key position though? We don't want any more 192cm flankers. We really need to recruit genuine midfielders and genuine KPP. Maybe we'll go for him or Spangher with pick 20.

i would expect carlton to be talking to every potential draftee.

its a draft, so may of these kids (bar f/s) don't have a choice where they go.

Who I like the sound of in this draft:

- Marc Murphy
- Xavier Ellis
- Shannon Hurn
- Patrick Ryder
- Travis Varcoe
- Marcus Drum

Kennedy I'm not sure about because I haven't heard much about him. Clarke hasn't impressed me one bit despite his reputation and Dowler seems to be a bit inconsistent.

He can play key position. He has been seen in the carnival as the QLD Full-back, and a damn good one as well. But for club football he was often used as our forward, who often played in mid-field. He never played Full-back, or the defensive line for that matter for club football, only at representative football, and that is because the State coach liked the size of his body, and his pace, which is vital in being a good defender, IMO. If he is taken on by Carlton, he'll most likely be put in the back, but he is capable of playing in the midfield and up forward. His pace, and his body is a real plus for him.

Nice. He sounds very good. AA full-back and can play forward, midfield and in defence. Ive noticed on www.footydraft.com he is now top 20 material and is 193cm adn 91kg (I think). That is what we need particularly if he is quick, good skills, versatile, strong in the air and confident. All necessities for any footballer but important for KPP, ruckman and gun midfielders. How do you rate Spangher, Bower, Kennedy, Ryder and Dowler?

Spangher is still the best KPP back in my opinion in the draft. Is injured and only played 1 game since the carnival. Has oestitus pubis. Was the one who impressed me at the U18s antway. Would be happy with Lucy or Spangher to be honest with pick 20.

Will be interesting to see if Ryder could hold down a KP in the future, but next years draft does have some good talls so we might just take another mid with pick 4. Doubt Spangher will be there at pick 20.

Me 2, but hopefully with the trades of Lappin and/or Whitnall we can pick him up around 12-17
