I need to feel the passion, the enthusiasm. I know Ratten had it. To me this doesn't feel like Mick is excited about coaching Carlton, it feels to be that Mick needs to prove something to Collingwood and we are the vehicle. He could completely decimate us for a decade and walk away still being an Eagles or Pies premiership coach.

Hasn't he been critical of us in his media role? Hasn't he bagged Judd's leadership? How will Judd feel playing under Mick now?

You may be correct about Mick.....he does not ooze a desparation for the job

HOWEVER, there were MAJOR management issues with Ratten's style in the last 6-8 weeks at the club....

The general market place does not know this......

The Board members saw this and acted.....feeling that Ratts could not take us to number 17.

I really feel for Ratts as I admired him as a player and as a coach.

What management issues could have arisen in the last 6-8 weeks that were not present for 5 years?

I think it is explained in the Newspapers....
Rifts with some of the asst.coaches, fitness staff, Swann......
As the pressure built, it appears Ratts management style stuggled

So he got along with these guys for years but became an arseh*le in the final few weeks? It just seems so convenient.

There's also rumours flying round that the board weren't happy with Swann.

The facts are we were last when Ratt's took over, he coached five years and got us into 3 finals series. That's actually very, very good.

This year was a disaster, injuries etc, yet despite looking atrocious 2 months back, the coach & playing group actually salvaged something (until the GC game). Ratts actually turned things round. Seems a little crazy to sack him on the basis of a few rumours, even if they are true, about his management style.

Ratt's sacking was an absolutely p***weak decision by the board.

Further to that, that snippet they showed of the leadership group (and maybe a couple of others) watching the press conference, showed some disturbed young men. They looked hurt. Judd had his face in his hands and Waitey looked like he might cry. I don't think he lost these guys at all.

Funny you should say that, I thought Murphy looked upset in the press conf: so am surprised he came across different on the footy show...maybe it was the questioning that was steering him in that direction...?

Not sure. I thought he came across fine on the footy show, and respectful of the situation. Was a little taken back by Sam having a go at him about being part of a playing group that cost the coach his job.

Just watched the League Teams and 360 youtube and I just cant believe some of the comments in regard to Ratts as a coach. They're all saying "no one could have done better" and "he's a successful coach" and all this stuff. 360 even had a graphic questioning if 2012 was such a bad year because we beat Coll twice and Freo....well what about the other 6 teams in the 8 we didnt beat? And the top 4 from 2011 we couldn't beat last year? Ratts is an ok coach but clearly, based on results, couldn't take Carlton into being elite.
It's very similar to Harvey at Freo last year. He is an ok coach but they wanted someone who they thought could deliver a flag. Its the same this year at Carlton.
And all this talk about if Malthouse says no then the next best coach is Ratts....give me a break. Eade and Williams are better more proven coaches.

Rocket is over the hill and Williams wont leave his job at GWS.

Mediais deadly, one wrong look or phrase taken out of context, you're gone

You know, one of the earliest things I remember learning in school was about Mesopotamia, River Tigress, Euphrates River, that general region. I have been searching ever since to find a way to slot it into a conversation.

Anyway, if I went travelling to Rome, I'd be heading for Ancient Rome, not modern Rome. Knowing the stuff that went down there in the past is far more interesting than the now.

No way ! Couldnt wait 1500 years for the Capuccin monks to work their wonders with the cloth errr froth.

Coffee first became popular in the 16th century. The Capuchin religious order was founded in the 16th century.

Coincidence?
There are no coincidences.

Cappuccino was named after Capuchin Monks and Capuchin Monkeys are named after Capuchin Monks and Capuchin Monkeys drink Cappuccino. It's the circle of life.

Pretty advanced order them Capuccins. I mean, they invented steam engines for their espresso machines way before Watt dabbled in mechanics. :D Their famous invention has ruled Lygon St for over 50 years (there was a Carlton angle in there somewhere)

Thanks MURPHkreuzmitch. You can take off the glasses now.
the glasses are off, he was in a tough position with all eyes on him for answers, he needed to be impartial, what does he say, I will give you some examples;

- blame the playing group, possibly but at risk of losing confidence from his team mates
- Blame ratts and say it is totally his fault, NO, he would not dance on his grave
- Say the club got it wrong, NO, just no

He needed to be impartial for every ones sake and was trying to do that whether or not he did a good job, clearly he was trying to be impartial. As for vice captain being a disgrace, where was our actual captain, we have not heard a peep from him, and Greg Swann he was all in the media when getting Juddy, where is he now.

Questions can be asked of everyone at the club and the way this has been handled, I take my hate off to Ratt's I thought he was really dignified in his approach.

Love how Ratten is now genuinely being talked up by other supporters and how he should have never lost the job. Weren't you the exact guys who were continually not rating him and hoping in a satirical manner he kept his job because it meant Carlton would never go anywhere with him?

That's right. The key point here is that we can never do anything right. I'm sure the insistence by our detractors that Ratten was a poor coach, rubbed off on some of our supporters who were searching for credibility. Malthouse will be a dud the moment he walks into Princes Park.

Sorry guys you are all wrong.

Cup Pacino happens to be the brother of Al Pacino and that is where the name Cuppacino originally derived from.

Honestly get a clue !!!!

I must say this week has been very interesting. As a neutral you could see the writing was on the wall, but I'm not sure what the driver for the decision process is. Is it Malthouse's availability or the failure to play finals? You've certainly had you're share of injuries and that is usually enough to tip a team from top 8 to bottom 8 given the tightness of the competition when you exclude the flotsam and jetsam occupying the final five places.

I'm certainly of the mind that Ratten is stiff. He's taken a team living from on it's knees to the finals twice. Not quite the trajectory Al Clarkson took Hawthorn on 2005-8, but pretty damn good.

I'm not a Malthouse fan; much of his standing is media hype. He did well early in his time at Collingwood to get a fairly pedestrian list into two grand finals; there are not many clubs that would give a coach eleven years to win a flag.
