Was care taker previously, maybe I'm wrong.

How do we think his coaching style has differed from Pagans on this, his first effort ?

Better - worse ? Is he modern ?

Obviously the execution of the gameplan needs a lot of work but I liked the general idea. Lots of short kicking, running and linking up with handball. High possesion game but with fast ball movement. Very similar to Geelong but just can't be executed as well yet obviously.

Also loved our pressure.

I'm a bit of shocker at game plans although from everyone you hear including Kade Simpson on AW this morning it entails holding onto the ball, more possession and not the long kicks on top of Fevs head. I imagine Juddy traveled with the team yesterday, wonder if he got into the song?

I wouldn't expect to see what we saw yesterday duplicated all that often. It was more or less used to try out different players at different places around the ground. Personally, it was hard to see any sort of solid game plan yesterday.

I think he's still fine tuning the lyrics:D.

I think it was more proactive too, i hate that word in life generally but if you watch the first quarter you can see Port get 3 goals from roughly the same ball movement from half back. Then the next couple of times they try it, Carlton manage to stop it with extra men, or better placed men (or luck?) resulting in turnovers and the game coming back our way a little.

I think we still got stuck with long kicks up forward to stationary targets with a 1 on 3 and Fev outnumbered but thats something for them to work on. Fev did well and i think Edwards did well once to bring it to ground when they were outnumbered.

I didn't think we had enough run

The very first thing i noticed from the new game plan, was that early in the 1st quarter, we went back to our Pagan ways where we just bombed it to an outnumber Fev, and i thought "here we go again". but then after about 10 minutes in, it seemed the message got out there, that we should look for our free men instead of just turning it over =D Halejuah!!

The other big thing i noticed which i was real happy about, was the structure of our defence. Last year, for blokes like Waite and Bower, it seemed their main priority was to run the ball out of defence, not stopping their opponent. I was VERY pleased to see yesterday that our defenders were ALOT more accountable. I don't care if they get 0 possessions, if they nullify their opponent they've done their job. We have blokes like Scotland who can provide the run out of defence. I thought Bower was real good yesterday. I still think he'll be a star. He's tall enough, bulit enough, and fast enough to be a very good defender, and i was happy to see him pay a lot more attention to his opponent yesterday

Would have been nice to get the first one on the board, even if it was only round 1 in the NAB Cup. Didn't think that we played that well, although getting used to a new game plan does take a little time in match conditions to do so.

Still, a win is a win, and hopefully would have given the boys some confidence going into next week.

Was down at Princess Park yesturday morning with the local footy team, about 9 o clock, and juddy was leaving the club in the training shorts and t-shirt, im guessing he had a gym session, came out from around that area. So im taking it he didnt travel to Adelaide.

Have to agree that we didn't play all that well. A good sign to still win when not playing well, albeit against a less than full strength Port team. More importantly, the win came despite minimal input from Stevens, Murphy & Fev (2 goals & a couple of assists, but he was definitely not on song). With improvement in these 3 in the coming weeks & the addition of Judd & Hadley, you can see we are on track for an improved home & away season.

Keeping in mind that Fevola was handed both goals, one from a kick inside 50 to an unmanned Fevola and the other from a free kick 10 out in front of goal.

It sure is good to be on the winning side of the card whilst underperforming, but we have a long, long way to go. A couple of boys saved that game for us (Not naming names, Hammer and Waite:)), but other than that it was very hard to pick out the boys that played four quarters of good football, excluding Scotland.

He must be proud to win a NAB cup match.

Lets see if he can get a real win now. Possibly round 1 but its gonna be a pissa if its not.

Yeah pressure was good.
Really good.
A few cobwebs in the skills department.
Some of the younger blokes perhaps a little
'hard handed' in the ball handling dept..
I like what ratts is doing.
Accountability and quick ball movement.

To be honest I wasn't especially happy with our midfield pressure. They seemed to get a lot of easy clearances despite the rucks seeming fairly even.

Our backline looked better, but we still look for Fev WAY too often.

In terms of style, the handballing out of trouble in the middle seemed to work well, but could end in tears against the Hawks if the pressure is a bit greater around the packs.

Delivery into F50 was patchy but it's early and this should improve.
