Rawlings

Maybe just leave him in the backline for a while - not that the Bees option is a bad idea. Great to watch when he is going well though.

Was pretty poor, but in the first quarter the number of leads he gave when the ball came in on the half volley was incredible. Could have had at least another 3 behinds if the delivery had been better!!!

He needs to play at Werribee for a few weeks !

You're over reacting.
Drop him because he missed a few goals and dropped 1 easy mark. He has been missing goals all year and even before he came to us. To promote who? as we had too few talls on the ground tonight?

The simple thing to do would be to move him to CHB but simple things are difficult for our coaching department.

If we put all the senior players in the Bees they could have a big win and we could have fun watching the young guys in the seniors.

:D

THey drag Harris for most of the 3rd quarter. Why not have put Rawlings in the backlines then and tried Harris in the forward lines instead of him sitting on the pine. Did'nt have any thing to lose to try that for at least a 1/4.

As I have said before, we should have picked Stevens!!!!!

Rawlings is OVERRATED and will be nothing more than that. His kicking is a disgrace for a player of his calibre at AFL level.

Come on, the whole team is playing like shyte. Rawlings is a valuable contested marking tall forward or back. Not many teams couldnt find a spot for him, and we are lucky to have him. Due to Bandys injury he has been carying a heavy load by himself in the forward line.

Lets reserve judgement to see if he responds to playing in a team with a different coach.

I've always had my doubts about Rawlings, and last night confirmed them.

He has been at the Hawks for nine (I think) seasons and he was minor contributor in all bar one of them.

Trade meat. We should cut our losses while we can by getting rid of this bloke.

I agree with stefoid. Rawlings is a valuable player to have in the team. Remember he takes the best defender every week. Just think for a minute how our forward line would have looked this year without him. Probably the main offender but definitlely not the only player to miss a lot of goals this year. Dropping him would be ridiculous.

Rawlings is incapable of carrying a forward line. He is similarly incapable of carrying a backline. He needs good players around him, and to be the second or third tall at either end.

His contested marking is a feature and as good as anyone in the game. But his kicking is atrocious, and his physicality and intensity at the Dogs has been poor. At Hawthorn he was a courageous tall defender for several years.

Move him down back and hopefully his attitude will approve. You guys are right to expect alot more.

On a positive, I liked Cooney's game last night. Reminds me of Brad Johnson.

Now that Bandy is back in the side, put Rawlings back and let Darc and Bandy play forward, and please get Skipper back in the side so the 3 can rotate between the ruck and forward line.

We've improved in contested marks tenfold from last year. To completely dismiss him as crap, is, well crap.

I listened to the Hawthorn supporters bag him every time he got a touch. They bagged him about 10 times. That means a Bulldog KP forward had about 10 touches.

We know he can't finish from 50 out, and we know his kicking is a little suspect at times, but that's 10 times he presents as a target from the forward line.

I'd much rather have Rawlings at 6'3 or 6'4 as a target than Brown at 6'0. Someone said he can't hold a forward line together. That's fine. Let's not have him as the lone forward.

Play him at CHF where he doesn't have to kick the majority of goals. Play Darcy or Bandy at FF. Rawlings has awesome skills at taking a contested mark. Let him pump it long to Bandy or Darcy who are also more than apt at taking contested marks and who are generally better finishers of the ball.

Play to his strengths, not to his weaknesses and we have a more than competant CHF and a forward line that starts to take on a good look.

Have it on good authority that Rawlings has been playing very hurt for the last 12 weeks or so. When you guys finally find out what he's been playing through, you will have nothing but admiration for him. Much like Jeff White's reputation took a battering last year when he played injured, so has Rawlings' this year. Still no excuse for his terribly poor conversion inside 50, but he's not the lone ranger there.

I agree with the injury comment made by Sedat.
Please rewind the tape to 96 when West was playing in constant agony in some areas, while numbed in others due to the injections.
It also show that he should be closer to goal, as his kicks are mostly very straight for the first 30-40m and then swing with a huge hook like other players do when they are taking a pot shot from outside 50.

Bandy is a proper CHF, but was only used twice in that position (for two goals) and was forced/instructed to leave that position to do other things as well.

Now we have a CHF can we have a 'Stay home' CHF????

Well said Sporty totall agree with you on this one. He will be worth his weight in gold if he had a decent forward structure but alas he can not do it all on his lonesome.

He's been playing on a dodgy leg, had utterly abysmal delivery into the forward line all year, and still taken 120 marks for the season, with only Riewoldt, Hall, Tredrea, Cornes and Ling ahead of him.

Marking: Good stat and coupled with his health status I see lots of improvement (I hope he can actually heal up right)

I also subscribe to the forward line situation, where he should be closer to goal, and have other people taking the bigger and faster defenders around him away.

Bandy Grant and Darc can be of help. Skip and even Walsh could do so should they start off against easier opponents.

This is all provided that the disposal to them is good.

yeah, unless he turns his kicking around dramatically, he is of little value close to goal. But as a leading mobile CHF, he will be a great asset, plus we have the ability to throw him into defence.

Trouble with that is Bandy's strength is also being a leading mobile CHF. He seems pretty hopeless when the ball is being rained down on his head. But I think his general size and realtively better kicking for goal ( ) lends him better to a gig closer to goal. Plus he can be thrown into the ruck. Plus with Rawlings in the forward line, Bandy wont get the number one tall defender, or if he does, then Rawlings gets a day out. Either way we win.

Calls for both of these players heads for the trading block are insane.

Those that are bagging Rawlings are a disgrace. Couragously playing in a lot of pain - It is obvious. I don't believe he should be playing at the moment, however with the pressure of being the no 1 recruit he probably feels he has to keep getting out on the park......also please remember earlier in the year when he had surgery and played the same week????????????? Mr 2005 Coach would be praying that the current coaching panel ended Jade's season now in preparation for the future of the player, coach and club.

I dont know what the nature of Jade's injury is? most likely his knee from earlier this season.

But i have a theory thats born from watching him attempt to mark. Whenever he has the option of marking with his Hand or his Chest he will always chose the chest mark. Which is a lot harder to take running at full tilt.

IMO Jade has a problem with his fingers/hands/shoulder/ribs... Just doesnt seem to want to put himself in a possition where he might hurt any of the above? eg. That dropped chest mark right in front of the bench where he could have easily just taken it in his hands...

Have anyone else noticed this or is it just me?
