Either way he still needs to use his hands more.

Also another thing i see is everyone saying "swap grant and jade".. why not attempt to play them both in defence? Whats wrong with having a few talls in defence rather than just Harris plus 1?

We let opposition teams score goals too easily and need players that can make a good contest down there.

Jade nor Granty are FF material so why bother playing either of them there?!

Also agree. We lack some KPP who would crack it with a top 4 side.

Let's face it, Rawlings is really a back.

Coach Scrotes suggestion:

Harris - FB
Rawlings - CHB
Grant - Lose backman, plays that position very well.

Imagine these 3 guys in the marking contests, with the likes of Smith, ROBBINS (yes in the backline where he belongs) and Hargrave picking up the crumbs and driving the ball out of defence.

Isn't Robbins a bit loose?

I know many think Walls is a tool, but his recent article suggested something interesting - playing Johnson in the backline.

Going off on a slight tangent (whicxh I'm entitled to do after a bottle of McLaren Vale Shiraz & some Rutherglen muscat), what would be our best backline from all available players?

Hahn Harris Grant
Koops/Hargrave Rawlings/Darcy Johnson/Smith

Not a completely silly exercise - a new coach may seriously look at this.

if robbins is loose, what is johno? way loose? mega-loose?

I dont think robbins is that loose, its just that he is a bit reactive to his man. the guy is very quick and plays very tall, and can kick a nice long kick on the run. I reckon he is a natural running half back.

johno should play half forward where his marking and workrate will make a loose opposition half back pay dearly on the scoreboard. or even a close checking one, he is that good a contested mark. he runs forward at any opportunity anyway... part of the 'midfield problem'. he shouldnt play midfield (much) and is wasted in defence.

I think besides Jades kicking he has done what we require from him. He is in the top 10 marks this year and witth a strong player next to him at full foward he will really get better. Someone bigger in the foward line to release the oppositions best backman from Rawlings will give him a lot easier opponent to dominate and also help Bowden who would be helped in the chain.
Jade will be a very important player next year.
