Ratings on the senior list and promoted rookies for the '07 season. I've tried to be fair to all without sugarcoating their performances. I've done the ratings not on overall output, but more on expected output - what we should get from each player - with consideration given for age, experience, injury and improvement.

J Bowden
Below par season overall for Joel after three very solid years where he has played his best football. Played several very good games, but also had drastic form slumps where his main asset - his disposal and decision making - let him down badly and cost the team. Was clearly one of the prime targets of several 'sprays' from Wallace directed at 'senior players.' Finished the season quite well playing some good shutdown roles and being creative in defense. Still has a tendency to go sort, wide and slowly in defense, which is a primary reason he racks up huge possession tallies - getting the ball straight back after sending it nowhere. Needs to attack the play harder in '08 and use his skill and experience to create drive from defense and bring others into the game.
Season rating: 6.5/10
P Bowden
Injury plagued season where he didn't manage a senior game and spent significant time both at Coburg and on the sidelines. Has adapted extremely well to his role at Coburg despite lacking fitness for much of the time, playing as a forward target who has provided both senior leadership and a much needed veneer of class to a young, up and coming bunch of juniors. Should be given credit for these facts, as he has provided stark contrast to other seniors who at times, have thought themselves to good to go back and play a role with the reserves. With a good pre-season, can still provide depth as a utility for the seniors if required.
Season rating: DNP
N Brown
Solid return from Nathan after a few false starts at the beginning of the season where his long term injury flared again. Provided a touch of class in the forward line when he finally resumed in the seniors, showing courage and tenacity to make his presence felt straight away. Given an uninterrupted pre-season, can potentially reclaim his best form in '08.
Season rating: 7/10
T Casserley
Injury plagued junior with good skills who has been shown enough potential to gain the patience of the coaching staff and an extension of his contract. Travis major tasks for the coming season will be getting hid body right, putting in a solid pre-season to boost his physique and fitness base, and hopefully making his senior debut at some point in the season.
Season rating: DNP
A Collins
Another junior who has struggled with injuries, but has shown good class and ability during limited opportunities in his first year at the club. Much like Casserley, needs a good pre-season working on physique to take the next step.
Season rating: DNP
D Connors
Exciting debut season from Daniel who was considered a 'steal' by many when picked up late in the draft. After a slow beginning, forced his way into the seniors with some very solid efforts at Coburg and displayed enough at senior level to suggest he will become a long term best-22 selection. Outstanding overhead for his size, good in traffic and blessed with good skills, he looms as a small defensive option who, despite lacking electric pace, should eventually become a very solid midfield prospect. Will improve again with a good summer of solid work.
Season rating: 7/10
M Coughlan
Another long season on the sidelines for Mark following his second knee reconstruction. Needs a big pre-season to regain confidence in his body and battle his way back to playing regular senior football.
Season rating: DNP
B Deledio
Overall, another solid season of progression for Brett, highlighted by some very good efforts across half back and as a mid-size forward target capable of taking a grab and also winning the ball at ground level. Struggled with heavy tags when played in midfield roles away from the forward line, but should improve noticeably as more class is gradually injected into the senior lineup. Still managed to have an impact on games when quiet due to his above average disposal and pace. Coming along well all things considered and will be better for this year's experience.
Season rating: 6.5/10
S Edwards
Outstanding debut season from Shane, despite the long way he has to go before attaining an ideal AFL physique. Has good pace, very good endurance and exemplary courage, but his best attribute at this stage looks to be his intelligent and highly effective use of the ball in contested and tight situations. Very few negatives worth mentioning at this stage which aren't directly related to his body size, lack of strength and lack of experience. Should make further progression in '08.
Season rating: 8/10
N Foley
Excellent season from Nathan which saw him progress from a fringe senior onballer to one of the league's best inside midfielders. While he was well renowned at VFL level as a ball magnet, a massive pre-season of hard work saw him improve his pace, upper body strength and disposal effectiveness to enormous degrees. Rightly hailed by the coaching staff as an outstanding example to young players at a struggling club, another solid pre-season should see him improve further and be better able to cope with the close attention he now merits from the opposition.
Season rating: 8.5/10
D Gaspar
Darren was usually reasonable in defence in the few games he played early this season, but often displayed quite poor body language and attitude, leading to a decision by the coaching staff to confront him with the decision that he was no longer guaranteed a place at senior level. Rather than play with Coburg and help develop players there, and possibly earn his place back at senior level, he chose mid-season retirement. Overall, he gave the club some good and at times excellent years of service, so this was a disappointing note to end on for all concerned. Goodbye and good luck.
Season rating: 4/10
A Graham
Promoted off the rookie list toward the end of season, Angus briefly debuted in the seniors before an ankle injury cut his year short. Has displayed sustained improvement at VFL level, and competed quite well in the ruck at senior level when given the opportunity. Will either be kept on the rookie list for another year or take his place on the senior list as a backup developing ruck option.
Season rating: 6/10
R Hall
Coming off an injury plagued '06 season, Ray broke down towards the end of pre-season and was unable to get close to playing during '07. Renowned for his hardness at the ball, effort and ability to play 'Mr Fix It' in a variety of roles rather than being a naturally talented footballer, he was forced to retire prematurely at the age of 26 due to ongoing injury problems. Sadly, this left him stranded one game short of his 100th match for the club. Goodbye and good luck.

B Hartigan
Brent started the year at the crossroads due to injuries in recent seasons and has struggled to regain the promise showed in his early career. A game small defender whose strength and willingness to take the game on excited Tiger fans, Brent has been unlucky with injuries, playing just the one senior game in '07, and will start the '08 season with much to prove if he is retained on the list.
Season rating: 3.5/10
C Howat
Cam began the year as a rookie promotion for the injured Coughlan, following on from his cameo roles at senior level from the previous season, also as a rookie promotion. Had some good moments in his senior appearances, but also failed to gain regular selection due to some quiet games where he had little impact. Of concern is his tendency to only influence games by playing forward of the ball - a role which requires you to be very damaging when given the opportunity. Runs well and has a good fitness base. May be promoted to the senior list for the '08 season.
Season rating: 5/10
C Hughes
In his second season, Cleve spent more time in the seniors this year, being called upon to help fill the void left by injuries to other tall players. Glimpses of his potential were again evident this season, with his strong, accurate kicking and good overhead marking the features. Needs to work hard over the pre-season to increase his physique, fitness and forward line presence so he can become a more genuine CHF option at senior level.
Season rating: 5.5/10
C Hyde
Chris established himself as a regular senior player during the '05 and '06 seasons, and with a good pre-season under his belt, looked set to take a further step towards being a handy running midfielder and flanker. Unfortunately, he again suffered injury problems during the season and overall, his form declined from previous years. Did have some good matches where he had scoreboard impact, but remains on the fringe of senior selection wih some talented juniors pressing for his spot in the best-22. Needs an injury free season with more sustained efforts in '08.
Season rating: 5/10
D Jackson
Daniel began the season as a player who had yet to perform to the required level in his senior appearances, but grew as a player as the season progressed with some very good efforts in tagging roles and as a backup midfielder. With a perfect physique for AFL football, good speed and reasonable skills, he looks set to improve further in the '08 season. Needs to work hard on positioning, concentration, and developing a more flowing style of football, along with the increased fitness to play midfield roles at the top level.
Season rating: 6.5/10
K Johnson
Overall, a disappointing season from Kane, albeit one where he played much of the season with annoying injuries. At his best he is a solid midfielder whose senior body is a welcome addition to a young and at times, fragile midfield. At his worst - which was on display too often this year - he is by no means an instant senior selection due to his lack of speed and at times poor disposal skills. Needs an injury free year and a gradually reduced midfield responsibility if he is to play on beyond '08.
Season rating: 5/10
Jake King
Promoted from the rookie list to the seniors for Ray Hall, King made the most of the opportunity with a mostly outstanding debut season where he was never relegated back to Coburg. Took the game on whenever possible, added much needed bite to the backline, and was generally quite good with his disposal. Another big pre-season could allow him to step up to tagging roles in the midfield, where his fierce competitiveness will stand him in good stead.
Season rating: 8/10
K Kingsley
Always a player picked up as an insurance selection, Kent failed to make any impact in his first and last year at the club. Suffered injury early in the season, which would not have helped his cause. Goodbye and good luck.
Season rating: 3/10
T Knobel
After an injury riddled '06 season, Trent again succumbed to debilitating injuries, failing to play a game in '07. At his best a very good tap ruckman, he gave good service when fit, though he often failed to make an impact away from the ruck. Another who has retired at season's end. Goodbye and good luck.
Season rating: DNP
A Krakeour
Starting the year under a cloud due to alleged criminal behaviour in the off-season, Andrew needed his best season yet to solidify his place in the senior side. Sadly, this did not occur and he spent much of the season playing for Coburg. An extremely talented player at his best, his lack of athleticism and consistent failure to have a significant impact on matches leave him as a player at the crossroads.
Season rating: 3.5/10
L McGuane
Luke began the season as a depth defender, but with injuries and retirements to others, was fastracked to becoming a regular senior selection. Held up admirably well in numerous tough assignments and showed solid improvement in his competitiveness, sustained effort and all-round skills. Needs to develop his physique further over the pre-season and give particular focus to disposal and decision making skills.
Season rating: 7/10
D Meyer
'07 was another frustrating year for both Danny and Tiger supporters, with him only managing three games at senior level and suffering a string of minor injuries. His unquestionable talent and skill has been often overshadowed by an inability to win his own ball, at times raising questions over his work rate, commitment to the club and his career. With further physical development, hopefully '08 will be the year that he can find the confidence to produce sustained efforts which allow him to impact games.
Season rating: 4.5/10
K Moore
At the club for a number of years without gaining regular senior selection, Kelvin was overlooked as a key defensive option with McGuane and Thursfield preferred despite his seniority. His good size, pace and reasonable skills have rarely translated into solid performances at senior level, however, he did finish the season well with his best two games for the club being the last two of the year. Has the raw talent to be a useful utility, but really needs a big pre-season to give him a shot of the confidence now the opportunites have presented themselves.
Season rating: 5/10
C Newman
Chris suffered a horrific broken leg during '06 and worked enormously hard over the pre-season to get himself into a position where he was available for selection from round one onwards. '07 was arguably his best season for the club, one in which he increased his effectiveness as a rebounding small defender and also spent short periods in the midfield. While it was a tremendous effort to play each game for the season and improve his output, at times when he was given shutdown roles on very good small forwards he was well beaten, and was also let down by his disposal at times. Displayed some ability as a goalkicking defender capable of going forward to good effect, again, a new feature in his game.
Season rating: 7/10
J Oakley-Nicholls
Selected with his long term upside in mind, Jarrod has struggled with a range of injuries which have so far prevented him from getting good pre-seasons and solid gametime under his belt. Blessed with electric pace and good mid-range height, there is undoubtedly plenty left to come from him in future seasons. Needs an injury free pre-season to allow him to improve his physique, with particular attention also paid to his decision making and disposal skills.
Season rating: 4.5/10
A Pattison
Starting the season as a fifth choice ruckman or sixth choice key forward, Adam was thrust into the role of first ruckman due to injuries suffered by those more highly thought of for senior selection. Struggled as expected in the role in the early season, but put in enormous efforts each time he took the field and managed to have some impact around the ground. Gradually grew as both a ruckman and a player over the year, having some very serviceable games and finishing the season very well having improved greatly. Strong at the contest and a good endurance athlete, Adam is progressing well towards becoming a handy, regular senior selection. Can be guaranteed to improve further in all aspects of his game over the summer months.
Season rating 7.5/10
C Peterson
Another junior player who has struggled with injury, Carl showed enough promise in brief appearances at lower levels to suggest that given time, he can be a good contributor at senior level. Like all the others just finished their first season at the club, needs a solid, injury free pre-season to take the next step in '08 and at least be a regular in the Coburg seniors.
Season rating: DNP
K Pettifer
Coming off much improved seasons in '05 and '06, Kane took another step towards becoming a quality small forward capable of pinch hitting in the midfield during the '07 season. Worked hard on his fitness, allowing him to be a bigger possession winner and have solid impact away from the forward 50. Generally made the most of his opportunities in front of goal, finishing the season second on the club goalkicking list with a career best goal haul. Needs to further improve fitness during the pre-season and take the next step toward becoming an elite small forward.
Season rating: 7/10
G Polak
Recruited to replenish the stocks of tall players at the club, Graham had an interesting and productive debut season in Tiger colours, producing clearly the best and most consistent season of his career. Varying between a spare man in defense, ruckman and CHF, he generally performed well in each role and proved himself to be a handy pickup. Needs another big pre-season to improve fitness significantly, hopefully allowing him to play genuine big man roles to greater effect and dominate games more consistently in line with his raw ability.
Season rating: 7/10
D Polo
Following on from two seasons where he produced everything and more than what was hoped of him, Dean had a frustrating season where a shoulder injury hampered his output and eventually led to him finishing up mid-season and going in for shoulder surgery. A quality player with fierce competitiveness and determination, he was sorely missed from the midfield and defensive ranks. Can inject a lot into the midfield mix in '08, assuming a good recovery from surgery and further fitness gained during pre-season.
Season rating: 5/10
A Raines
Andrew burst onto the scene in '06 as a massively improved small defender who came from nowhere to rank highly in the club Best and Fairest, and also challenged for the Rising Star award at league level. Took a significant step backwards in '07, with a less than acceptable level of disposal marring most of his games for the season. Was given some interesting new roles playing on tall forwards, pinch hitting in midfield and tagging, performing all to a reasonably acceptable level. Needs to put in enormous work on his disposal over the summer, as he lacks the pace to be an effective defender or midfielder - his disposal needs to become a strength and not a major weakness.
Season rating: 5/10
M Richardson
Matthew continued on from an improved '06, with his massive workrate, improved leadership and outstanding athleticism again being features of his game. Was at times typically wasteful in front of goal, but again had very solid scoring output for the season overall, once again leading the club for goalkicking. Improved his team play further this year, often sacrificing individual performance for team performance - this unselfishness not always being the right decision. Among his top seasons in a long and distinguished career, with his courage and heart again being a shining light.
Season rating: 7.5/10
J Reiwoldt
Terrific debut season from Jack, immediately starring at VFL level and forcing himself into the senior lineup. Performed consistently at the higher level, cementing himself a place ahead of both Schulz and Hughes by the end of the season. Showed exciting glimpses of his potential throughout the season, highlighted by strong goalkicking, intelligent ball use and an already blossoming degree of leadership. Needs to work hard on his pace, fitness and physique over the pre-season.
Season rating: 7.5/10
J Schulz
Another injury interrupted pre-season saw Jay once again fail to reach the fitness levels which could allow him to step up and achieve his potential. Performed quite consistently in the early part of the season, contributing regularly with minor goal hauls. Spent much of the latter half of the season at VFL level, performing well, but not well enough to reclaim his place in the senior side. Did improve his second efforts and attack on the football noticeably towards the end of season in his few senior appearances, but ultimately, was let down more than anything this season by his inaccuracy in front of goal. Needs an uninterrupted pre-season and a lot of hard work to dramatically boost his fitness, hopefully with a return to his former accuracy in goalkicking - without this he can be a liability up forward as he doesn't create enough opportunities for himself to afford wasteful kicking.
Season rating: 5/10
T Simmonds
Disappointing followup to the best season of his career in '06 for Troy, severely marred by an ongoing ankle injury early in the year, with a blood clot in his lung prematurely ending his season once he had returned. Needs a good recovery from this illness and a full pre-season to return to near his best, as he's a player who doesn't regain top fitness quickly. Genuine concerns over whether his ageing body can allow him to show the same athleticism which previously overcame his height deficiencies in the ruck. Both the club and Troy need everything to go right in '08 for him to have a major impact.
Season rating: 5/10
R Tambling
Richard took further steps to fulfilling his potential in '07, overcoming a very flat patch mid-season to finish well and take some confidence into next year. Showed more sustained glimpses of his enormous talent, breaking games open with his pace and flair, having significant scoreboard impact, and taking small but decisive steps toward becoming a midfielder capable of being damaging inside and outside. Needs another solid pre-season working on his physique and fitness to take his game to greater heights in '08.
Season rating: 6.5/10
W Thursfield
Big question marks loomed over Will coming off a knee reconstruction in '06, but he met every challenge with his customary competitiveness and was invaluable when often placed in the role of number one key defender. The prototype of a modern FB, his spoiling was a highlight, while he took significant steps to becoming a better rebounding defender. Needs to work hard in the gym over the summer and continue to improve his already acceptable disposal and decision making skills.
Season rating: 8/10
G Tivendale
Statistically Greg's best season for the club, but in terms of output, as a senior onballer he was below par, as evidenced by his mid-season relegation to Coburg. Fair to say that in the years since, he has never recaptured his excellent 2001 form, no doubt due to the quality of the players feeding him the ball, and the frequency with which they did so. Still a dangerous goalkicking wingman on his day when played in this role, but when forced to play as a genuine onballer he too often goes missing in games. Can provide depth and a senior body for another year or two if required.
Season rating: 5.5/10
S Tuck
Another solid season from Shane where he battled constant niggling leg injuries and the increased attention he has received since his standout performances in '05. Disposal was sub-par in numerous games, but overall an excellent effort to keep getting himself up for games, as evidenced by his continual need to kick - to unexpectedly good effect - on his non-preferred foot. Given an injury free summer where he can consolidate and get himself back to 100% fitness, looms as a player who we can expect improved output from in '08.
Season rating: 6.5/10
M White
Matthew found himself ranked behind quite a few newer players in '07, spending most of the year at Coburg where he couldn't force himself into the senior side. Struggled to impact games when played at the top level, failing to win enough of the ball when played off the bench as a small defender and tagger. Always tries hard in his assignments and displays a very good attitude in all he does. Fair to say that both King and Jackson outplayed him this season and his task for '08 is to prove to the selection committee that he can take his spot back from them.
Season rating: 5/10

At the club for a number of years without gaining regular senior selection, Kelvin was overlooked as a key defensive option with McGuane and Thursfield preferred despite his seniority. His good size, pace and reasonable skills have rarely translated into solid performances at senior level, however, he did finish the season well with his best two games for the club being the last two of the year. Has the raw talent to be a useful utility, but really needs a big pre-season to give him a shot of the confidence now the opportunites have presented themselves.
