rbh (ratings based handicapping) which is done by rvl, has got me confused!!
how do's it all work?? i thought i knew, but i must be wrong

for example at ballarat(6/6/07)vrc midweek meeting, fullta won a 1mw mares race over 1200m!! ok before this race she had a rating of 72. she wins the race and rating go's to 82. fair enough!! the 2nd horse was called moxies jewel whos rating went from 68 to 72 after that performance

she raced on wednesday at sandown in a 0-82 mares race over the same distance-1200m, and accordingly she gets 58kg. totally accept that as she is the top rater.
  • moxies jewel wins the race yesterday. before the race as i said, she had a rating of 72. she wins the race by 4 and 1/2 lengths. and her rating only go's up to 78!!!
  • fullta won a very similar type of race at ballarat by only 2 and 1/2 lengths but go's from 72 to 82..how do's that work??
  • yesterday fullta came 5th, beaten 7.2 lengths in a 0-82, so surely her rating would come down a couple, because the horses that beat her had lower ratings. NO..It stayed the same!!
i may be biased, but to me, it looks as if we have got the raw end of the stick!!

I didnt think there was much wrong with the old system.
Sure there was a human element but was that such a bad thing.

I loved backing horses whose trainers claimed had been given too much weight, strike rate was amazing.

Certainly dont pretend to understand it now

I don't understand it!

I think all it has done is add yet another type of race into the form and makes it even tougher to try and compare formlines.
