I’m not sure of the numbers on here, but I know there are a plenty of AFL members that like me rarely reserve a seat for Marvel matches. I just wanted to flag with anyone in that category that you won’t be able to attend the match next week without first buying a public GA ticket (currently going for $38).

I’ve been liaising with a member of the AFL’s member services department and their official line is “As with all games the access for members is subject to capacity and at this stage the afl reserve is at full capacity”. I’m going to be lodging a formal complaint and I’d encourage anyone in a similar boat to do the same considering the Marvel AFL member allocation is roughly 5,000 and Collingwood has at least double that in gold AFL members.

The reason you won’t be able to walk up is explained in an email we received yesterday which states “The AFL Mobile Membership is expected to be ready for Round 1, but not in sufficient time for us to feel comfortable promoting, educating, and supporting our members through this transition.” We’ve also received a free upgrade, but you can only use it on AFL member seats which are of course exhausted for Rd 1.

Sounds like a terrible way to treat members who have stuck by the AFL for two years.

This might be one of the most pathetic lines I've ever read from a corporate entity trying to excuse its mistake to customers. “The AFL Mobile Membership is expected to be ready for Round 1, but not in sufficient time for us to feel comfortable promoting, educating, and supporting our members through this transition.”

I'm not impacted since I'm not an AFL member. But club members only got instructions on how to use the mobile memberships today. Why do they think AFL members are so stupid that they can't work out how to use a mobile membership?

I still don't understand why this match isn't being played at the MCG, it's the first Friday night match being played in front of a crowd in Melbourne since the middle of last year, also I don't know if the AFL knows this but Collingwood has been known to draw crowds.

Gut feel it’s not ready to go and they’d prefer this scenario over 100’s of people stuck at gates trying to enter. The arrogance of the exchange was particularly galling as well given I’ve paid up the past 2 years.

St Kilda home game… Otherwise it wouldn’t have been an issue because the allocation is 4 times as big at the MCG so AFL members would comfortably have been able to use the free upgrade.

The latest excuse is that I can’t walk up because the AFL seat allocation is exhausted! Not only that, but apparently we’ve never been able to.

FWIW for any non AFL members this is crap. I’ve been to well over 50 matches at Marvel, never been denied access and never upgraded to a reserve seat.

Sco i am maybe not understanding this fully but are you saying the AFL members have an allocation of 5000 seats for the game and they are all gone?

Who could have foreseen that bolded part occurring? Apart from everybody.

I like how we now have another free upgrade, conveniently provided after 1/4 of the season has already been onsale. There will be a lot of people who don't end up using all of their upgrades.

Luckily, I plan on going every week, so I should end up getting my value out of them.

Yep, got emailed the other day saying the allocation was exhausted. Every other game in the past that would mean simply scanning in at the gate and sitting on Level 3. But they won't let people in Scodog's situation do that this week because the AFL suck at implementing their new mobile membership option.

Although it might be 3k seats and not 5k.

Not sure of the exact number, but you’re bang on the allocation is exhausted. Right now if you’re an AFL member without a ticket already the only way you can attend is by purchasing a public access GA ticket.

As a general update I’m currently preparing a DM for a journo about whether they’d be interested in picking the story up. The discussion with the AFL membership team was via FB messenger so we’ll see how it pans out.

Okay that makes sense now, didnt get the option after reserved seats gone was still to get entry. That sucks to lose that.

If Scodog10 or anyone else interested i may have a couple of spare tickets but wont know for sure for a couple of days.

Definitely interested, but I’m going to see how this pans out because I ended up lodging the complaint and the only reason I’m reaching out to the journo is the arrogance of the member services team. I didn’t realise the allocation was as low as manicmagpie said so the justification they’ve used is absolute rubbish because that would sell out for every Collingwood match at Marvel.

It's only those few bays on the dock side wing. Don't know exactly how many seats but the number 3,000 jumped out at me like I had been told it before.

Looked on Pies Website and says best way it to put the Ticked to Digital Wallett
That’s great advice for club members! Unfortunately it hasn’t been rolled out to AFL members just yet so we don’t have that option available.

For any AFL members out there that have booked seats how did you do it? The reason being the email from yesterday announced both the free reserve seat upgrade and that the AFL member section was exhausted. I suppose I’ve missed an email along the way so mostly curious.

Tickets were on sale for AFL Members for Rds1-5 on 1st March as advised by multiple emails the week prior. It was originally 10am for Marvel, but a glitch in the system accepting logins meant it got moved back and another email advised it was changed to midday. MCG tickets went in sale the same day at 1pm

I am in the same position as you. I too paid up as per normal during covid and opted for the dining package. I posted in the other thread the nightmare trying to get through via phone as booking online could only book for two and three of us wanted to go (I was paying extra for the third person).

Emailed them after trying to get through via phone (two day), as I was gradually going up in the queue I was disconnected (8 times). Finally gave up and emailed them. First reply was 'we will get back to you in 3 to 5 working days'!

Anyway, it all boils down to I also missed out on getting tickets.

This has got Putins finger prints all over it Sco. 😉

P.S I hope you’re well mate 👍

Scodog
There were emails as Sandy 13 describes in post #18, for AFL members.
The trick was to enter the 12 number barcode the AFL sent us by email.
That offered you a seat at various prices which I booked.
$15 for 2nd level wing.
No other cost.

Since there has been an email saying that you need to book a seat for rd 1 as there is no walk up option, with the price of $0.

Your complication is of being too late for a "hot ticket", I suspect.
Or a missed Email?

A question relevant to the game, but not (apologies) the topic of this thread: is it worth the effort of going to Marvel --which I think is quite considerable-- on a Level 3 ticket?

Another: does being towards the front of Level 3 make it anymore worthwhile?

I am going and I am in the 3rd Level.

Actually is a Really Good View of the Game up there

You can get a decent idea from that seat view selector.

Up to you whether its worth the effort but I'd suggest that the view isn't one of the reasons Pies fans don't like Marvel.

Nice. Just checked it out, and as TD suggested it is a pretty good look at things from there.
