Autopsy Rd 2 v Melbourne. Blues go down by 22

Totally agree Blueballs38. Huge improvement throughout the club and it's something that people should take into account at the dark times following a loss this season. When i'm frustrated and impatient i think back about where we were 2-3 years ago which was no man's land.
Correct. We are on a journey. It was no fun watching Carlton get thrashed by 100 points with players not trying and, apart from Cripps, no young players to look forward to.

I honestly think things will turn around quickly - quality depth will be oir problem.
We stay relatively injury free and top 8 (next season) could be on the cards
Maybe on greeting cards. Need to be a wee bit more patient than that. Last year was neutral this year we're only in first (with occasional clutch slippage).

We need to find some robust hitmen and get them into the team, if anyone wants to take a cheap shot at one of our ball players, then the thugs deal with them.

It's time for us to stand up and show we are not going to take it any more.
I am 100% deadest serious about that.

I am from a different era where the players who went in an got the ball were protected by the umpires and if there was some dirty stuff, the gutless snipers were dealt with and dealt with properly on the field.

For far too long, we have been pushed around, belted, scragged and bullied by certain opposition clubs with Hawthorn & Essendon being the main ones.

I'm ******* sick of it !!!
So our choice are what? To join them? To make ourselves brutal in the search for respect or victory.

No. I prefer our players playing football over the thuggery you're suggesting. The tactics of yesteryear have no place on a modern football field, and nor should they. Lewis is widely regarded as a thug who lashes out when his team are losing, and he proved that again, and as for the response to his assault on Cripps, you need look no further than Weitering, who knocked him on his ass.

Leave the brutality for those without honour or talent.

Watched the replay of the game last night and found the half time interview Goodwin telling..

'What do you need to do in the second half goody?'

"We need to stop Cripps, he's really starting to get on top"
Whatever it takes ...

Some of the opposition clubs decided that the best way to beat us is to beat up our best prime mover in the clinches because there will be no retribution or fightback.

We have bemoaned the fact that Murphy has been belted from pillar to post in the past, now it appears that Cripps is going to be the target. These guys are ball players first & foremost and do not go out to do anything else.

So, its time we drew our own line in the sand. If we are going to stand for anything, anything at all, it should be that we are not mere pushovers and that we look after our own. The AFL and/or the tribunal aren't going to protect us, we have to look after ourselves.

The hip & shoulder is the most lethal weapon in the game and it is legal, let's use it to our advantage and make some of the supposed hardmen of the league think twice about taking a cheap shot at one of our key playmakers.

Except that with a few exceptions, the match review panel looks at every bump, and is less consistent that they are on everything else, and that's saying something.

I see where you're coming from, and I definitely think our players do get bullied around the ball. But that kind of violence has no place on a football field; it should have no place in our society. Put very simply, if Jordan Lewis did that off a football field, he'd be in jail.

Why, exactly, do you think we need to do the same? Just to get ahead? Is that truly who we are?

Lachie Plowman in two weeks in a row and the man Wright up front, btw he's just moved into the top 100 players according to the player ratings. We now have 5 in Cripps, Simpson, Wright, Gibbs and Docherty. Murphy's trend has him back in the top 100 very soon. In comparison Gws have 11 top 100 players, Geelong have 6, Adelaide have 8, Sydney have 8, West coast 6, Bulldogs 7 (but a lot in the low 100s).
In contrast, brisbane have 4, collingwood have 4, The bombers 2 (but they'll have more after the cheats climb back up), Melbourne have 4, North have 2, Saints 3, GC 3... Obviously not a great statistical comparison but the trends are interesting. I reckon we'll have a lot of competition for the spoon this year. Some other worthy options.

There is a balance between kinghitting blokes and making a stand against those who opt to target our boys due to our reputation as a weak as piss side.
Sadly the only one displaying any legit fire after Cripps was floored with a cheapie was Cripps.

People get so set in a mindset they refuse to actually see the game sometimes.

I cannot agree with this enough. We (the collective 'we') accuse the AFL or umpires or commentators of having an agenda and not recognising/seeing what is happening on field/within a club. I think a lot of supporters can be just as bad sometimes.

Much as it shits me, I find it reassuring that most of our mistakes came from people that won't be at the club in a couple/few years time when our newbies/young'uns are hitting their peak.

I'm just so impressed with how the blues are going on and off the field.
In two years we have a CEO, President, Coach, List Manager and group of young players that are the foundation for 17 ...lol not mentioning the huge culture shift!

Agree. I'm just looking forward to 2018 when all the deadwood will be gone and the young players start stepping up. Will be exciting to watch

Exactly [emoji106]

This year is and will be frustrating. As Boltons brings the kids in and exits the average players it will start to get better. Be nice to be able to fast forward to draft at end of year.

I thought the same thing but was hoping we would add a readymade quality player or 2 to the midfield mix for this year but we havent . SPS in time will add quality to the midfield maybe Fisher but we lack real grunt and bigger bodies in there . We need atleast 2 quality inside mids to just be competitive each week . Eg from the game on the weekend you add a Jones and a Viney to our side to team up with Cripps releases Murphy and Gibbs to more outside roles and we'd be a far better side .

He's gonna have to get used to it. Bit of assistance would be good. Truth be known this sort of stuff is building a tougher, more resilient, better footballer.
