I think the logic is that we started really well against Port, had a good lead, showed manic pressure and then collectively all looked at Murphy mid way through the second quarter and said "we're not going to try any more" mid game.

I thought that it was also partially John Barker's fault, Jordan Russell was involved along with Paul Bower.
No!
It was all on Trent Sporn. 😡

Solid effort.

Was impressed with LOB - the amount of times I saw him pushing into defence to help shows a high work rate or maybe a slightly more defensive gameplan by Teague. Not to mention that leg, I got excited everytime he had the ball!

TDK and stocker both stood out, great games.

Not sure if it's me, out the fact that our midfield is typically younger than most, but we're too small. Every week it looks like it's kids vs men. Dow, Kennedy, Walsh, Fisher all need to bulk up. Not everyone needs to look like Ed, but I feel this hurts us to a degree; even Cripps has not been the same since he trimmed down after his AA era

Kemp looks like he has some real natural defensive nous that’s hard to teach (kicking was a bit untidy) , along with some serious closing speed. Understand we drafted him as a utility but wonder if the stars could align for once as a direct Jones replacement when the time comes
100% he will be great for us.

I find most of our kids (recently Stocker comes to mind), tend to shank a few kicks in their first few games then they settle right down down. Their brains runs faster than their feet.

Over time the words match the music and it all clicks.

I’ll just focus on the positives of the season (the negatives are easy to pull out):

- we’ve seen glimpses from Kemp, Durdin, Honey, and Stocker
- we got a reserves side up and running and they were competitive most weeks (exception of Box Hill). A shame we couldn’t get more development into our kids courtesy of the abridged season
- we got a chance to see some final magic from Eddie
- we have three players in All Australian contention
- we saw a changing of the guard in our on field leadership of the team (Teague was correct on this)
- de Koning continued his development
- Dow and LOB played their best footy... is it enough? Who knows? But they did improve
- we got footy into Charlie, and his comeback games were reasonably solid

I know it’s slim pickings. But there are some nuggets in there.

The constant excitement of playing well early, perhaps building a lead (usually not reflective of our dominance) and then giving up 5+ goals in a passage where we look like witches hats really is soul destroying.
Correct. My soul was close to destroyed the day we played Eagles at SCG. By half time I had turned off knowing my soul was being in danger if I put myself through any more of the same.

Rapt for LOB, finally he is showing us what a sublime user he really is on his left peg. Always been a fan and now he is looking like he has decided to make the wing his own.
Agree that in the main our boys are to small and this comes back on Andrew Russell. Ross will come in and send our mids straight to the weights room. Cerra is also light bodied at this stage, but he should be a useful addition, as long as we don't give up too much.
David Teague has handled himself well and is a fine fella. Yet I believe we need Ross and he will get some astute assistants hopefully. Bring in a couple or three players from other clubs. One tall defender/interceptor, one or two mids the likes of Hewitt and Cerra. Ross's gameplan will give the players much more confidence and suddenly 2022 is looking up.

That game went pear shaped early on. Weagles had their weakest team that they had ever fielded pretty much. Yet it only took the irrepressible Liam Ryan to win the thing off his own boot.
We have a huge weakness in our list, we have absolutely nobody capable of running with or curtailing a player like Flyin' Ryan.

I was impressed with the physical state McGov was in. Hopefully the boys can stay fit and keep their bodies in good shape over the summer break.

Yeah it is always good to see a professional well paid athlete present themselves in good shape.

Hello..sorry for intruding. But i come in peace.

imagine this side next year. You have had a terrible season of injuries.

B: Marchbank Jones O’Brien
HB: Carroll Weitering Saad
C: Dow Cripps Williams
HF: Silvagni C. Curnow Martin
F: Fisher Mackay Honey
R: De Koning (Cerra) Walsh
Int: Kennedy Docherty McGovern Stocker

Owies, Pittonet, Pet-Seton, Plowman, Newman, Williamson depth.

Rosey skies ahead. just need to keep a healthy list.

Wow, so a season like 1964 was not as bad as these ones?
What was it like in the mid 60's being a Carlton fan then?
I was only 2 in 1964 so that's something I can't answer. Now the late 60s and the 70s were pretty good. Blessed really. Early 80's ✔️
I can only detest the last 20 years. Pretty much crap since Kouta did his knee.

I actually enjoyed the game because seeing a bunch of young kids put together strings of accurate penetrating fast kicks to advantage and in /Durdin/Honey/Kemp demonstrate above average AFL leg speed and movement - makes me feel more confident about the future. Will be sorry to see Levi go- but his knee injury is calling it time for him - and what can anyone say about Eddie - except will be missed.

A shame we aren't playing finals - maybe next year.

and an actual game plan and development
Swap O'Brien and Williams around. O'Brien not a back line player but is a winger.
Dow is not a wingman and has to be properly developed in middle.
Kemp and Cuningham need to be in there too.
McGovern no spot in 22 and just depth at moment until he shows otherwise.
I pray Marchbank and Cuningham get over the injury curses as we would be very dangerous with a proper run at it and decent coaching.

Also pray list management do not **** up what had wonderful foundations before this year.

If right choices are made we can easily move forward at rapid rate with right people guiding this list.

Good post, the one I'll add to the list is Matt Kennedy.
Demoted to the rookie list, he could've easily sulked and half heartedly finished out the year before leaving.
Only he pulled his socks up, demanded a spot back in the team and prospered. Loved his progress this year.
