Agreed, but that's a free any day of the week.
Guys get a free if someone taps on the shoulder to get attention these days. That was a free.

About 5 years ago (I can't remember exactly when) the umpiring fad for the year was penalising players who entered marking contests with the flight of the ball.

Does anyone else believe Spencer's hit on Sandi could be deemed as Reckless. Spencer has came in front on to the pack collecting Sandi's head with his elbow and we all know what the outcome is.

If the head is so sacrosanct how come we have had Luke KO'd by Ryder, No Free (But he was Sited) and now Sandi, No Free and a crushed face, play on.

Just putting this up there for comment.
Probably because once the umpires start thinking about whether or not they're going to report the opposition, they immediately lose sight of the basics.
They should be under instruction to pay the free first, and think about what they'd just seen while that's happening.

Controlling ump was in the pocket so no way he could have paid a free, would have been guessing. 2nd ump is at chf when the kick goes in, maybe with 3 umps these days he can push down more and have two umps with a good look at those inside 50 marking contests.

Can't believe that. If that was an eastern states top ruck it would have been looked at. The club should ask a question of the AFL. Any incident that injures a player should be looked at.

I made a call a few weeks ago that we should be requesting a please explain from the MRP. Nothing has happened to change that and I think it would be beneficial to address that, and umpiring in general, leading up to finals.

Not a thing for the sniper (Dunn?) following Fyfe around hitting him in the back.

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.

Free kick for sure (crazy that it wasn't), but I rate his attack at the contest. If that was one of our boys running back with the flight we would all be applauding his courage. It was one of the only plays that a Melbourne player should be proud of all game.

McPharlin's cannoned in to a couple of players heads and got nothing, why do people think non-Freo players should be held to a different standard by the MRP?

You're just not getting the point of the discussion at all. If Sandilands was treated the same as a non-Freo player he would have received a free kick and the MRP may have even looked at the contact considering the damage done. It's Sandi and he's huge, so that's ok, seems to be the attitude.

...why do people think non-Freo players should be held to a different standard by the MRP?

Freo players are, there is always a Freo player who sets the precedent with the MRP and rubbed out. Doesnt work the other way i.e gets the benefit of similar not guilty's.

Freo are not respected (one way to fix that), easy to use to make points. Freo just roll over.

Always? Name two.

I get it that you don't know shit from clay, otherwise you would know that I have already read that thread because I posted in it.

If you don't like the premise of this thread, go find another one to annoy people in.
I understand the premise. It's "boohoo, that mean crab didn't get suspended, Freo are conspired against by the MRP".

It's a contact sport and the contact was in the act of going for the mark. If the umpire thought the Melbourne crab had his eyes on the ball it's neither a free nor worthy of a review by the MRP. Got it?

No, I don't "got it". I could use dozens, possibly hundreds, of examples from this year of front on contact in a marking contest being penalised during a game, but I'd rather not waste one more skerrick of energy on a lost cause.

Not that I've got a dog in this fight but I can name two.

MJ - 4 weeks for brushing someone's head with his arse just as the head high hit witch-hunt started.

Troy Cook - got a week or two for a perfectly legal bump because he ran past his team-mate to shepherd. It was right when they were knee-jerking about 'running past the ball' and they incorrectly applied it to Cook even though his team-mate had/was gathering possession as he shepherded.

Why not? Wouldn't it be high contact if he had been hit in the head? Please explain.
