kilmore must win one of sunbury, romsey or woodend - no question - and hope diggers don't knock off either riddell or woodend. it's still in their hands.

twos on the other hand must win all 5. :D it's gonna be fun.

Spot on. Its in there hands but it looks daunting. The drawn game may come back to bite them. Percentage could have got them over the line if they had of won that drawn game and things pan out, as outlined previously based on ladder positions.

Interesting few weeks coming up!:D

Everyone on annual leave today?? :D

Whats everyones thoughts on who will take 5th spot??
Remembering 2 points is the difference and the draw looks like this:

R14: Diggers V Woodend, Sunbury V Kilmore
R15: Riddell V Diggers, Romsey V Kilmore
R16: Diggers V Macedon, Kilmore V Woodend
R17: Melton V Diggers, Macedon V Kilmore
R18: Diggers V Lancefield, Kilmore V Rockbank

Bold to win based on ladder positions (nothing else), Kilmore maybe in trouble.

Kilmore is in massive trouble.. They must defeat either Sunbury or Romsey, I couldn't see them having the cattle to defeat Woodend.. Need to hope for a huge upset from Macedon, Centrals or Lancefield against the Burra to get in.

Can the Blues make it?

by Matt Nicholls

FOR Kilmore to make this year’s Riddell District Football League finals, the club needs to rely on two options.
a)they beat a side above them on the ladder; or
b)hope Diggers Rest don’t beat anyone above them and lose to someone below them.
To put it simply, as I did last week, the ball is in Kilmore’s court once again.
The Blues squandered their opportunities on Saturday and will now need to beat either Sunbury Kangaroos, Romsey (both away) or Woodend-Hesket (home) if they are to feature in September.
This is how the run home pans out for both Kilmore and Diggers Rest.

KILMORE
(currently six wins and a draw – 26 points)
R14 v Sunbury Kangaroos (away) – LOSS
R15 v Romsey (away) – LOSS
R16 v Woodend-Hesket (home) – LOSS
R17 v Macedon (away) – WIN
R18 v Rockbank (home) –WIN
Final picture: Eight wins and a draw – 34 points.

DIGGERS REST
(currently six wins – 24 points)
R14 v Woodend-Hesket (home) – LOSS
R15 v Riddell (away) – LOSS
R16 v Macedon (home) – WIN
R17 v Melton Central (away) – WIN
R18 v Lancefield (home) – WIN
Final picture: Nine wins – 36 points.

According to my analysis, both clubs will be hoping they can beat Woodend-Hesket in their respective matches. The Blues and Burra both face the Hawks at home, and will set themselves up to win.
Kilmore is capable of defeating any of the next three sides they play, but they will enter each match as an underdog going on this season’s form.
If Diggers Rest win this weekend and Kilmore lose, it’s goodbye finals for the Blues.

Very solid 4qtr performance by the burra on the weekend resulted in the 4 points. Sad to see that kilmore NO15 go down with what looked like a horrible injury hope it wasn't season ending.. Very good coaching by the diggers panel to not allow one of the leagues best (Robbo) roam around backline on his own and pick up possessions at will. Still a very long way to go this season before the Final 5 is done and dusted. The battle for the top 3 is just as intriguing as the final spot. Underrated janner did excellent job of inform forward cornish

Think you'll find Cornish's groin/osteitis pubis did the job on Cornish. Janner was smart enough to run off him though.

Why are they playing him Matt if the injury is restricting his impact, surely selecting a fit player makes better sense ?

He was nearly a late exclusion, and he decided to play. He has managed it all year, it hampered him in 2006. There's not much you can do really. Its a reoccurring injury. They probably thought Cornish one out in the goal square is better than their next best fit option.

So he's been struggling with it all year Matt, yet hes been kicking bags. I don't think you're giving the Diggers boys their just kudos. Big chance of an upset this week, my tip: Diggers by 30.

Don't tell me my own opinion. Cornish struggled to walk after the match. Diggers played solid, but not outstanding football. It was prick of a game with far too many turnovers for two sides wanting to play finals. I know there was pressure but some of the skill errors were very basic. Kicks that you would expect Under 14s to make just didn't hit targets. Then you see classy blokes like Sims and Robertson who make the game look easy. If anyone wants to take Diggers on I'll be extra generous and offer 5-1. No chance if they play the same as they did on Saturday and Woodend-Hesket play similar to the way they did against Lancefield.

good 2 see diggers coming good at the right time it would seem.
i doubt however that they can match the likes of a woodend.
the roos managed to defeat diggers a couple of weeks back with half their team out.i cant see them matching woodend.time will tell tho

never, ever bag out pickles' love-child, dave cornish.

a pretty thorough analysis of the game tho, pickles. i'm a bit surprised though, between the constant perving and chatting up chicks during the game, and then leaving before the final siren, that you even noticed what was going on out on the field. :D

A good jorno can tune chicks and watch the footy at the same time :p

yes i am sure from here on in there will def be a message waiting for me when i get out the shower from one of the diggers boys to see how we went - and vice versa. will be a tight finish but we can only have ourselves to blame if we finish 6th.

why has everyone just conceded this weekends game against the roos?
surely kilmore would fancy their chances.perhaps this might be a loss for the roos that could potentially be quite satisfying.seeing our arch enemy diggers miss september action

Haha. Could we see the first ever match fixing scandal in the RDFL? If you plan on doing it can you tell me first Mongrel so I can alter the odds :D

He is by far there best forward and given the ladder positions etc.. and who the game was against, if i was a coach and my best forward had an injury and we needed to win, and he put his hand up, i wouldnt hesitate to play him. Was a huge game and they needed the points. Good on him for putting his hand up.

The only concern is, if it is a bad as matt said then continuing to play him isnt going to do him any favours for up and coming weeks. OP isnt something that dissapears whilst continuing to play.

He is irreplaceable though, and him sitting in the goal square is better than some of the options Kilmore has to replace him. I've been told its a peculiar injury where one day he can feel okay, 95%, and the next day its ordinary.

Totally agree. Id have him in the square injured if he puts his hand up for a big game.

If they were playing someone alot lower though, then wether he puts his hand up or not, id sit him out, especially 5 weeks out from possible finals.
Id be manging him very cautiously at training.

i can offer my advice on op.
i had op about 4 years ago.it is a severe pain in the lower stomach/groin region.only total rest 4 about 6 months will help the healing.but the short term solution is to put up with the pain and play thru it.i used 2 jog the entire half time break 2 keep it warm and mobile.if u rest 4 a few weeks it will be exactly the same.it doesnt get worse but it is just a major nuisance.i have a theory on op.i played 4 about 5 years with the same pair of boots, and one night at training i split my boot.so i went and bought a new pair of the so called modern boots with the blade type studs.
two days later i played the game and finished up with op.never was this injury heard of in the old days which helps comfirm my theory
stick to the traditional moulds or studs when picking your footwear.

Thanks Mongrel. The trouble for Kilmore/Cornish is that the Blues have three huge matches in a row against Sunbury Kangaroos, Romsey and Woodend-Hesket. Do they rest him for a fortnight and try and get the full side up and running for the home clash against the Hawks, or do they play him and see if they can pinch one along the way. I know the OP has effected his kicking for goal too. He is clearly winning the goalkicking but should have kicked another 20 odd if his conversion was better.

Cheers Mongrel.

Do you still have the old puma grasscats?? :D

i do indeed.absolutely useless in the mud but great over the pre season.
and in answer 2 your question matty, cornish should rest this week against the roos.lol.
no he has 2 put up with it and play the season out.i learned how to handball like the diesel when i had it,coz the fact is u dont wanna kick.
doesnt help a full foward but it isnt a quick fix.many a box of panadeine forte was consumed when i had it and a few tubs of tiger balm.
but it doesnt get worse as an injury, its just a pain threshold thing.if u can tolerate the pain,u can definately play.as he seems to be doing

Not trying to tell you your own opinion Matt, I'm suggesting that if Cornish has been carrying OP all year and still kicking goals, then Diggers, and particularly Janner, have done a good job stopping him because he obviously has the ability to carry the injury.

As for Diggers beating Woodend, you make some valid points. I'm not suggesting Diggers are a better side, far from it. Something just tells me (call it gut, stupidity, whatever) that Diggers can get up this week.

yeah i played with cornish at wallan n he could only manage 2 senior games and 1/2 a reserve game last yr whilst suffering from op and rarely could get on the track. also i noticed macedon wear geelong jumpers that i saw in the free press a couple of wks ago, when did they change from the red and blue and just wondering how come?
