You can't just update the rules every time you have a new idea, and if you do it's clear you were making it up as you went. Which they were, then lost fans attack anyone who didn't understand it instead of addressing it's poorly written. Like at least Inception is consistent with it's pretend intelligence.
Just because the rules weren't all explained in one go doesn't make them inconsistent. Because Jacob doesn't want people to be able to come and go, he made it so you could only leave by following a certain bearing, which is why the raft wasn't able to leave, but the others and Michael at the end of season 2 left the island. Coming to the island was completely different, there was nothing stopping people and Jacob himself brought a lot of them there.

Look I'm obviously not going to change your mind and that's fine, but I feel it's clear the show is poorly written from almost every angle. so many times coincidence solves problems or answers questions, and you're not allowed to do that. Enjoy it if you want, I enjoy dragon ball z and that's as inconsistent as any show rule wise, they just make things up to solve nearly every death of a major character. Difference is, nobody goes around hyping how complex and intelligent dragon ball z is. Complex doesn't mean well written.

Imagine at the end of Die Hard, he's gone through all this shit in the building, and when he finally gets to Hans Gruber he shoots fire out of his hands and kills him. And then they're like oh yeah I've always been able to do that, it just uses up too much energy for me to do it a lot so I saved it. They explain it, and technically it didn't break any rules within the movie's universe, but it would still feel incredibly cheap. That's why I can't get behind people telling me how clever lost is. It's Die Hard fireball edition level writing.

Eugh, cricket scores are just made up as they go along
I don't know what you're so mad about, we all know Mitchell Johnson shoots fire out of his hands.
