The house where I grew up almost burnt down today.

Grew up around two kilometers south/ east from Stoneville town center. Used to get off the bus from high school just off Richardson road and i always used to question the areas ability to withstand a big fire, there is a lot of houses on small bush blocks where people let the trees grow right up to their eves (my parents did the same at thier place).

A few of my mates lost their man shed (their hangout at their parents) which is like 15 meters from the house and a few other out buildings are also rubble. Fire fighters saved the house somehow, they can't be commended enough because they could have been cut off from the road if the fire went down the over grown street verge. They had the bush come up to just one side of the house, which gave the firefighters a chance to get at the fire. The next three houses down are all gone.

From the look of it on the news it seemed as though there was a lot of houses surrounded by huge dry trees and the like.

November 2011, when there was the big fire down here, we almost lost the house we were renting and the house we were building. The fire had burnt literally right up to the house on every side. It's a horrible feeling and the firefighters can't be commended enough.

On another note, did anyone watch the sport report on the ABC last night? Whoever did the report on Pat Rafter coming out of retirement said "fans of tennis will love such a repugnant combination". o_O

Just wanted to generally echo these sentiments. I'm in awe of the job those guys (and girls) are doing.
