I went 6-8 as In trying to be realistic I often think too negative.

My concern is north, tiger, blues and a case could be made for Brisbane. They will all be around the mark and if too many of our players stagnate and don't take the next step we will be hard pressed to make the 8.

I think we will but I won't be as confident as I was last year when it was a bit less even.

The club is yet to put together a full season of consistent football in nearly over a decade.

Top 4-6 is a pipe dream, even if everything goes right.

My tip is a solid 8th.

Another thread like this?

Okay, i think we will finish somewhere between 6th and 8th if we're talking realistically. But we do have the potential to push into that top 4 spot if we of course, play to our full potential and our man management is good.

6-8 sounds acceptable, solid chance it could be higher, will be very disappointed if the list doesn't show considerable improvement this season.

Whatever it's going to be I wish it would hurry the hell up, all this cricket/tennis bs is boring me to tears

Anywhere from 4-10 imo. If we have a healthy list then there is no reason why we can't go deep into September

Im still thinking we are at that period where we are going to be too inconsistent as a team, we havnt yet hit that area where we will find the level of consistency teams like Geelong, Hawks, Coll, West Coast, Sydney have shown in the past.

I cant see us finishing anywhere outside of 5-8 TBH.

If we can show the form of the first half of 2012 then there is no evidence to suggest we can't push top 4. The wheels fell off.. no doubt about it.. but for 13 rounds we matched it with the best teams in the comp and I only see us improving.

Geelong has to come down at some point, Richmond still has some holes down back and it will be interesting to see how Mick brings Carlton up. Brisbane are another couple of years and I don't rate Freo as a rule and can't see any reason to change. WCE, Haw and Coll still look like teams to beat.. Adelaide could go either way,

As was the case last year.. I think we are scrapping with Ade, Norf and Swans for positions 4 - 6. Obviously swans had everything go right and we had everything go wrong.. but I still think we are about that level...

The thing that worries me with fremantle is Sandi, Fyfe, Mundy, Ballantyne, Barlow, D.Pearce, S.Hill (there entire midfield) didnt fire a shot last year for them and they are some worrying names if they get up and going. I still am not sure about their backline and forward line but Lyon seems to work around that, he did at the saints and they still have Mcpharlin, Pavlich some big stalemates at each end.

My brother in law is Richmond. He said Essendon's team sucks, so we had a $100 bet on whose team will finish higher. In a roundabout way he's funding my sponsorship contribution.

I think we'll finish between 5th and 7th. Richmond will be 9th of course. :)

I get the feeling it is boom or bust. I really think Essendon showed it was a potential top 4 side last year, well I have Collingwood, Hawthorn and West Coast ahead of us, I have Carlton, Freo and Sydney around us Adelaide, Geelong, Richmond and Norf just behind us.

With that in mind if everything clicks and we have a dream run with injuries, then Essendon could go as high as 2 or 3 if those teams above us have injury or form worries. If we have bad luck with injuries again and the above teams all go alright we could finish as low as 13th.

When injuries strike will having players much less developed (experience and strength/fitness) kill us this year, or will have more talent that is hungry for an opportunity serve us well.

Honestly splitting the difference between 2 and 13 is as stupid as taking one of them. Essendon is a real dark horse this year. Another summer in the gym will see Kav, Browne, O'Brien and the like be more ready made players.

Pass for me isn't falling into 8th spot and making the finals. For me it's winning a final. So where ever we finish in the 8 I wouldn't care.

Finishing in the top 4 and playing in a prelim final will be a good achievement.

That would be better than a good achievement.. Prelim would be a dream!!

I think we have to reserve judgement on what is pass or fail until after we see what cards the team is dealt this year.

If we have a dream run with injuries and don't come very close to top 4, then I'd be disappointed in the team. If we do finish top 6 we are guaranteed one home final and if we don't win that I'd consider the year a failure, obviously still under the assumption that we have a good run of injuries. This means hardly any long term injuries and Watson and both rucks available all year, always having 5 of Fletcher, Hooker, Pears, Carlisle, Gumby, Crameri and Daniher fit and confident, two of Jetta, Winderlich, Davey and Dell'Olio fit and firing and most of our youth getting plenty of game time in VFL kepping up pressure on spots.

If we have a dream run regards injuries this year in every way other than Watson and either of Ryder or TBell missing most of the season we'll also be screwed. If a scenario like that happens or we have a terrible run like we did last year, as also blues, dockers, pies and eagles did then it wont be ladder finish per say that I'd judge the season on. I'd be looking to see if among the carnage players like Colyer, Myers and/or Gumby can somehow dodge the bullet and get a chance to string a lot of games together and develop into good AFL players, or at least give the opportunity for the club to make a list management call on them. Mostly though my judgement will be on whether the club falls into an embarrassing heap like it did last year.
