Growing up in Melbourne in the 80s and 90s, you were guaranteed regular school excursions to some really crap places like Sovereign Hill and the giant earthworm in Gippsland.

Post your crap excursion destinations and associated experiences here.

To wit, when we went to Sovereign Hill for like the 700th time, and some twat dressed up as miney took as panning and inisisted there was still gold in the creek, the rich kid nobody liked actually found a nugget!

Stupid Sovereign Hill.

I think at one point I had about 5 of those WANTED: SWEETLEFTFOOT FOR HORSE STEALING type posters they make you get there.

Going lawnbowling followed by a shitty little theater, not to see a play, but take a look backstage. The theater was so bad, the actors were volunteers, and the clothes were donated....

The main Centrelink office in the city one afternoon for Work Education in year 10 !

Also went to a backpackers inn once for Tourism.

Going to the cinema at the end of second term in year 7. The film ceased to work about 5 minutes in and instead of seeing another film (Ice Age was the film we went see IIRC), we just went back to the school.

In year 9, my social studies class went to some historical museum in Brisbane. We had lunch at a place nearby. Half the class felt sick shortly after they ate their food (I wasn't one of them, I recall it was a certain chicken meal that wasn't prepared correctly, I had a sandwich I think).

Both stories are excellent, especially the cinema one - like something from The Simpsons.

I remember in year 10 our class went to Pizza Hut for lunch. Back when you'd pay $8 or something for all you can eat lunches and sit in the restaurant. We had a class of 25 devouring pizza's quicker than they could cook them. I remember the entire class banging our knives and forks on the table demanding pizza and having the waitress' stressing out like crazy. Guys were putting their heads under that ice cream machine and pulling the lever, just eating it as it came out of the tube. The bus ride back had some guys barfing that gorged themselves....it just typified what our class was about.

Speaking of crap, did an excursion to the Werribee Shit farm in 1988. Toured there and the old Board of Works, toured the tunnels etc.

Did Sovereign Hill half a dozen times. Boring.

Went to the Immigration Museum in year 11.

We went to the rubbish place where all the rubbish gets dumbed, the tour guide dude was so fascinated haah, after that we went to the yakult factory that was so bad.
Grade 6 camp, we went to parliament house and watched question time or whateva, everyone was waving at john howard he didnt wave back so everyone was pissed off.
One night on that camp we got chicken for dinner, and every single person got sick, and they cancelled activites for the day, no kidding.
That was a terrible camp.

There is such a thing as a good school excursion?

Cadbury factory in hobart back in the day when they had the tours where you could stuff your face the whole way around and then buy ridiculously cheap chocolate at the end from the shop. I did that in primary school, high school and then once a couple of years later in the school holidays with the family. I think they have toned it down now though :(

We literally went to a box making factory on a camp once. I'm not sure where. It was sunny, beautiful place, close to a beach and we were stuck at a ****ing box factory.

NOT THE BOX FACTORY AGAIN SEYMOUR?!

It may sound crap but when I went to school in 1997 in Melbourne (Grade 8 in Darwin demoted somewhat to Grade 7 in Melbourne) the 2nd day was spent at the Zoo....

We got to sit in on 15 minutes of a judge's summation once for P&L. Most of that time was spent filing 30 girls quietly in and out of the court. Going to the Constitutional Centre in primary school was also pretty crappy.

Was lucky to get some really good excursions though. 4 days at Rottnest for Biology, that place where you wear the vests and shoot at people and the vests make a noise if they've been hit (Q-zar?), the zoo is always a good one.

When I was in highschool, we went to Adventure World:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu: and Scitech twice. Also did an excursion to Bunkers Bay, which was a cool day.
Oh heck yes Sci-tech ftw, how could I forget.

I also went to see first Jurassic Park movie in primary school, Adventure World, Under Water World and some dinosaur documentary at the Imax theater.

Damn I forgot till you mentioned Sci-tech.:thumbsu:

Good Excursions I've been on: We did the Linear Park Bike Trail all day, then went back to the meet up point and had a BBQ.

We all walked to the Tea Tree Plaza Shopping Center and had to buy poor people gifts *walk around the shops and buy whatever the hell you want* Then went and had a BBQ and played footy.

Camps were good...

Bad: First year of High School, no camps, 1 excursion, which was to a church. We prayed and had a circumcision or whatever the **** those Catholics call it.

At one camp I went too, we weren't allowed to eat sugar. They made us eat salad the whole camp.

It was funny seeing everyone shaking from sugar withdrawals on the way back.

Another time, we went to a worm farm for some reason.
