The club must justify its decision tomorrow - for the supporter base

I support Lyon but it would sit better if valid reasons were provided.

There must be a good reason ?
 
I want to hear Ross Lyon speak, I think he went after the job at Freo. I don't think that Fremantle approached Lyon.

Although it's great to get a coach of Lyon's pedigree the way this has happened I fear will have turned a lot of the footy world against us and do more damage than our board has realized.

I don't think getting a better coach is going to be acceptable.

There has to be more to it.

The reputation of the club will be reduced if they shafted Harvey for no good reason.

There must be a good reason. Ww know Harvey is going to spin it his way.

If it fails, Freo will be an even bigger laughing stock, perhaps the biggest ever by some margin.

They've pulled some pretty bold moves the past couple of years. They're either sick of waiting around or just absolute masters at pump-and-dump.

No I'm not kidding. Lyon had a lot to do with it, he didn't tell his management for starters. Obviously part of it from the very start if not the instigator.

This has not been some drawn out courtship.

Quite seriously, I highly doubt a coach would approach a club.

My take: Lyon was contacted by a member of the board off the record. Goyder or similar.

Possibly, I just find the fact that Lyon's management was not involved at any point very strange. At what point and why would Lyon agree to or decide not to involve his management?

Geez I hope we don't get burned by this. Would give anything to be a fly on the wall at the next coaches association get together.

If he had involved his management (who also manage Harvey) they might have told him, then this whole thing would have turned into a media shitfight and everything might have fallen apart.

If I'm Managing Director of Wesfarmers and I want to have a coffee with you, would you decline? I then tell you over coffee that the club I'm a board member of is interested in a new coach, and have approached you directly because I know that you have the same manager as my current coach, and that I would like this conversation to be kept strictly in confidence.

This has all the cold calculating efficiency of a big corporate, not the idle job enquiry of a disaffected footy coach.

Is that acceptable?

Because that is all that matters, really.

Is it any bolder than trading a no 1 pick for a glamour boy from melbourne.

We have been the laughing stock of this comp since 1995,

At least we are having a real dip through the coaching dept.

If it fails (and I guess that depends on your definition of fail) we will have paid $7.5 million for nothing. That's worse than Wallace at Richmond. Worse than Croad for pick 1.

This is a premiership or bust moment.

Is Lyon on the coles/bunnings payroll ? I can't see the shareholders liking the taste of that sausage sizzle - the club must be forking out big time

For sure Clay. If this doesn't work out then I can't see an easy way to justify the slow progress of the club.

However with the introduction of free agency, this could be Freo being ahead of the curve.

I hope everyone is aware that we will be getting a bullshit story to justify our reputation tomorrow. I believe people in management simply have to be savvy, unscrupulous and be willing to cover it up with the same zeal.
 
One or two news stories out eluded to the possible fact that Harves wasn't a very good communicator with his own players, he also overruled the strong recommendations about players that shouldn't play so soon after their injuries & the apparent stalemate between Haves & list managers over who's more important - Clark or O'Meara.

And I guess all the excuses every single media interview.
