It might scare people to think of it, but Brisbane have a better young group than we do. Attard, Adcock, Logan, Sherman, Wood, Brennan, Selwood, McGrath and Hadley are all under 23 and are a better group than we have. .

I say bulldust to that, they are made to look pretty flash alongside, aker, voss, lappin power and co...similar to Fiora at moorabin...lets see how good they stack up if the rot really does set in at the gabba and they are required to shoulder more of the load...

Agree completely.

Having followed their junior careers and seen them playing in national championships I am quite comfortable in saying they are better than our kids. Andrew Raines couldn't get on the field for Queensland and neither Jackson nor Roach made the Vic Metro squad.

Obviously they are finding it easier to play in a good side, but I am not basing my assesment on that. Anyway, our guys get games for free, most of the Brisbane guys have actually had to earn a game in a strong team.

If Troy Selwood was at Richmond he would have played 35 games and been annointed as a saviour of the club.

You are right Weaver in what your saying however there,s a huge difference between our top 15 and Brisbane,s.

If anything my first post on bigfooty did create a good response, even though very few agreed with my views!
.

Congratulations.

weaver , with all due respects what you have said means jack sh%$. Its of little relevance where they played their junior football, more importantly the level of improvement they have shown once arriving at a league club...On your theory the likes of Poyas should have rated us higher than anyone else as he was a TAC cup Vic captain..amounts to very little doesn't it.

Ive seen the Bris players you have referred to and in no way shape or form are they superior to Delidio, Tambling, Newman, Hartigan, shulz and co...there are others I have failed to mention as I have yet to see them in senior company

Good post Bo

How are Brisbanes on field endeavours travelling at the minute with these youngsters having to shoulder more responsibility ?

Weaver`s point is a big catch 22 , how can guys earn spots if there is no depth ? I`m not jumping up and down like a lot of people are , annointing our crop of youngsters as the future-superstars of the competition . What i am rapt about is seeing the RFC playing talented kids instead of seeing the names of Nicholls , Hudson , Fleming , Marsh , etc. being trotted out . We are not blessed with the situation that the strong on-field clubs have whereby they can let thier kids serve an apprentiship

A fact of life is that not all our kids are going to be good enough to make it , but with our list eroded to the point it was ..... what would you rather see ?

Regarding the criticism of Raines , i think that he is one player that has earnt his spot . He is a player that has not had the benefit of coming through a strong under age competition and was very green when he arrived at the club . To be where he is at the minute is a great achievement and should be acknowledged . I disagree that he has had a free ride

Agree GAF, but as long as it is balanced and tempered. The calls from some posters about playing the likes of Meyer, Gilmour, Moore, Archibald, Pattison, Mcguane, etc all in the same team at the same time THIS YEAR is ludicrous. Whether we like it or not, they need to play alongside more expereinced and strong-bodied campaigners like Chaffey, Tivendale, Graham, Knobel, etc for the sake of current competitiveness, team balance as well as their own development and confidence.

But this is my point exactly. There are plenty of Richmond posters around who are saying ... we are on the right track, we have a bunch of talented kids, best young talent around etc, Jackson, Raines, Roach and co are future stars. Pattison, Meyer etc should be in the team and so on.

They are unproven kids and in many cases not that highly credentialed kids at that. As you say, it is about improvement and development.

A teenager gets 10 touches in the seniors and we wet ourselves.

Our batch of young kids is about the same as a dozen other clubs. We have barely begun the rebuilding process, not finished it as plenty would have you believe.

Our re-building process is in it`s infancy , yes , but no club has ever had 4 first rounders before ( 5 of the first 20 ) so that in itself is a very solid platform which would suggest that we are right up there with our batch of kids , provided of course that these choices have been used soundly .

Throw in the sage recruting of under-age recruits Gilmour , Jackson and Raines and for mine you have a very solid platform that has us in very strong position "youth wise" .
