After thinking my days of games console owning were over I got addicted to Tiger Woods 2004 on my brother's PS2 & so I went out & bought one for myself.

Now after reaching a point where rather modestly I reckon I must be in the top 10 in the world at Tiger Woods:D I've been having a gay old time on Grand Theft Auto III causing mayhem, getting worrying addicted, struggling to do many of the missions & realising that's it's probably a very futile & in the end unrewarding experience.

So I need a bit of advice on what are some of the best PS2 games out there.

I've become pretty out of touch since my days of N64 playing, I don't really have a prefered type of game, am just looking for quality.

The good thing is that because I've not really played any of the games I'm just as happy getting into some of the older ones which I can pick up a lot cheaper than the new releases.

So any recomendations would be gratefully received (with a bit of explanation of what the games about).

cheers

PS anyone know of a definitive site for hints/tips (not cheats) for GFA III?Cos I'm even struggling on some of the early stuff, like how do you kill 25 triads with the flame thrower?I'm struggling to find that many in the alloted time.

And how do you make a whore get into the car with you & restore your health, I pulled it off(no pun intended:D) once but don't seem to be able to manage it anymore.

Just do a search on google.

The triad mission is a bitch, you just have to keep doing it until you get lucky and the computer gives you groups of two or three triads instead of one. Best thing to do would be make sure you have full health and a shield, head to the basketball court killing people on the way, waste all of them on the court (~6-8 triads), walk back into the main part of Chinatown and hopefully kill enough of them before the time runs out. I also noticed if you steal one of their fish vans, all the triads in the area come at you, quick kills but they can take you out quickly. Anyway, I'm pretty sure you don't need to do that mission to get onto the next island.

Can't help you there. We have nazi like classifications in this part of the world and hence that bit was cut from the game. There are unedited copies around, I just don't have one, someone else might be able to help though.

As for the games, from my collection:

Bargain Bin:

Rugby - Based around 00-01 ish, I picked it up for 30 bucks, newer version has been released just lately so if you can find it it will be cheap as chips.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 - Skateboarding game, I'm no skater but I like it, cost me 40 bucks from Kmart.

Virtua Tennis 2 - Arcade classic, getting a little old (Rafter is the #1 player) but cheap and fun, a little on the easy side.

Medal of Honour: Frontline - Perfect game if you like shooting up Nazis, I bought it when it first come out but by now must surely be platinum and cheap.

G1 Jockey - Worth a look even if you don't like horseracing, G1 Jockey 3 was released earlier in the year so again it should be cheap and there is not much difference between the two games.

GTA Vice City - If you like GTA 3, you'll love this, but you would need to pay full price I reckon.

Thanks mate, yeah I had a look on Google but there's millions of them, I had a look at a load but I wanted to find one that was simple & easy to follow & had everything I wanted on it.

I noticed that with the fish vans as well but it doesn't seem to happen all the time.

I tried setting up a hug road block on the intersection to stop a load of fish vans but it didn't really work & just cause chaos.

BTW where's the basketball courts?I've got to admit I've been a bit slack, I should have made the effort to have a proper look round & log where everyting is but I just keep on doing the missions & not having a proper sniff around.

dont get tony hawk 4 since tony hawk underground will be out soon and it looks mad as

vice city rocks it makes gtaIII looks like crap even though it is the second best non linear gameplay game (second to vice city)

Pro Evolution Soccer 3 - it's either out now, or out very soon. It will be full price and a bit more, and it will be worth every cent.

Rez - the greatest game of all time. Although it may be hard to find now.

Burnout 2 - the first Burnout game is not even in the same league as this one.

For something that's out right now, try Amplitude. Maybe hire it first because I'm not sure that everyone digs it as much as I do, but I cannot stop playing this game, it's ultra addictive.

There's a heap of new games due to come out in the lead up to Christmas that look like they should be really good.

FIFA 2004
Pro Evolution Soccer 3 (This one will dominate my life for at least a few months!)
True Crime: Streets of LA (Like Vice City but with much better fighting)
Manhunt (By the makers of Vice City, and looks unbelievably brutal)
Medal of Honour: Rising Sun
Tony Hawks Underground (Looks fantastic!)

In the longer term, Gran Turismo 4 should be out in the first quarter of next year and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater in the first half of next year. Both will be jaw-droppingly amazing.

Really? I better try it then!

The first one was enjoyable.

Burnout 2 is by far my favorite game. Completed all the Crash exercises, and about half way through the Custon Series Championship.

Unreal game and I HIGHLY reccommend it to anyone.

Thanks a lot everyone, I appreciate it & by all means keep the suggestions coming.

gPhonque & Mr Chuckles I asked the question on another thread but as you've both mentioned soccer games here I was wondering which you felt was better out of FIFA 2003 & Pro Evolution Soccer 2?

I've seen that both Pro Ev 3 & FIFA 2004 are out now so I reckon I'll assume that which ever was better out of the previous editions will still be better now & that's what I'll probably go for.

The Pro Evolution series is the greatest sports videogame series ever.

FIFA is one of the worst.

Take your pick.

I remember the first time I ever played Pro Evolution soccer. It was both the greatest and worst moment of my videogame life:

"Greatest" because I realised I'd discovered something truly fantastic.

"Worst" because I realised how much time I'd wasted playing FIFA.

yeh i heard you can get bitches to get into the car with you then get out and shoot her and get your money back. i never realised that they had cut that part out here, i just thort there was a way of getting them in there that i didnt know about. flipping censorship

anyway yeh get the vice city GTA, its great! ive been playing that, i havent finished GTA3 tho, i cant be bothered.

btw the basketball courts are under the bridge near the cop station IIRC, tho i havent played it for about 6 months.

i like the getaway too, i havent quite finished that either because ive been playing vice city.

what else... the need for speed hot pursuit 2 is also good.

we have V8 supercars but dont play it much, and the other one with the F1s in it but i cant remember what its called now.

james bond nightfire is too hard, though i cant say ive really tried that hard to get into it. i liked the N64 goldeneye version better.

Rugby 2004 is a fantastic game and i have been addicted to that since buying it a month or so ago.

FIFA series are fantatstic i think, with all the official FIFA stadiums teams and sponsors it makes for a truely realistic looking game. As for the play it is arcade like as goals are failry easy to score and conceed even on the very hardest level. Heard that the new FIFA will be much more difficult with scoring and being able to run the ball so long.

Splinter Cell is personally i belive the best action stealth game on the market, just awesome the things you can do a must bye and only 50 bucks now, along with Max Payne they are great gets.

Madden 2004 is awesone as are most of the sportings ims EA bring out.

cheers

took the words out of my mouth
:D

NHL games from EA r really addictive to i love them, Final Fantasy games r quaility gaming experiences, Splinter cell is a great stealth title, gran turismo or V8 supercars r great in car racing and any of Jak and Daxter or Rathet and Clank games r also well worth the money, Cricket 2004 comes out soon so if your a cricket buff (like me) then that will be a must buy to.

I have a serious question: (assuming you are playing FIFA on PS2)

Why do you bother with FIFA when Pro Evolution exists?

There is absolutely no competition. I didn't mind the FIFA series in the days before the first Pro Evo came along, but each new FIFA game that comes out now I'll hire for a night, play it for an hour or two and wonder why I bothered. You can score the same goal the same way every time, and it just doesn't feel like a real game of soccer at all. The only thing it has going for it is the official licensing, but I'm not willing to put up with a s***house game just so I can see the sponsor's logo on the front of a jersey. Conversely, the Pro Evolution games are amazing. I cannot recommend them highly enough. I thought they'd pretty much achieved perfection with the first one, but the second one was a marked improvement, and I just got Pro Evo 3 on the weekend and once again I've been blown away by how they keep somehow managing to make the game better. Seriously, go out and get it like right now!!

Hey mate I just hired out the previous rugby version & I thought it was decidedly average, is rugby 2004 a quantum leap better or is it just the same game touched up a bit?

Yeah I'm a cricket nut too, is the previous version pretty good then?

I must admit as much as I'm kean to find a few sports sims that I enjoy I've always been a bit dubious about how well sports like Rugby & cricket will play on a video game, I've always thought that they can make it look great with the stadiums & players that resemble real cricketers/rugby players but for me the game play is 90% of the deal & like I said on my previous post I played EA rugby & felt that it didn't offer a lot.

I'm speaking particualry on 1 player mode, you can play against a mate on most sports games & it's good laugh but it's against the machine that they often don't stack up.

Are they still producing many games on ps2, thinkning about buying one, but i remember there came a time for playstation 1 where there were no more games and the companies started making the PS2 games, playing ps1 dosn't compare just wondering if its worth buying a ps2 at this stage in time

ps when does ps3 come out??

Yeah champ Rugby2004 is huge jump in many ways from the original. Gameplay is alot more smoother and alot closer to reailty, the fact that so many countrys and clubs have endorsed the game means that almost every stadium, team, sponsor you would care about are on the game. There are a few glitches though, after a while of playing an Australia vs New Zealand match will turn into a 30-0 win for what ever side you choose the game does get quite easy. To keep the competive bug going inside the creaters have placed a World league in it which means you take a club side eg Reds,Neath,Glasgow from scratch and build your team from Div3 to Div1. This style of game is difficult and you muct purchase players to be competive, Im actually up to rd 15 of 22 and with the Highlanders im sitting on top with a 12win 1loss 1 draw record.
Dipper most deffiently go out and get the game its fantastic although i cant wait for the Rugby League game to come out as well.

cheers
