Record Player Help...

Hey dudes and dudettes,
My uncle recently gave me a record player, just the turntable, I've plugged it into my cd player using the red and white cords but it's awfully quiet and extremely high in treble.
Do I need to purchase an amplifier or something? Any help/recommendations would be hugely appreciated!

You need an amp. The output from a turntable is tiny.
