Recruiting Targets Summary

I'm sure Coco would love Phil back but we don't need another mid sized KPD and not sure he would be ahead of Hombsch, Jonas or Carlile.

If we are paying Ryder a lot then we need cheap alternatives for our other needs - draftees, rookies and DFAs. Gorringe will fill our ruck needs, a draftee will cover our KPD needs, then we have Flynn and Wagner as speculative picks. Another tall and another mid would be great but really as cover.

Why mid sized

Considering we struggled when we lost White's pace and Trengrove's aggression and support in the ruck cover for both would be nice. Ryder +/- Gorringe will achieve that for Trengrove. Mitchell is sort of cover for White, but doesn't have the same raw pace. Blease has been mentioned as a fast and cheap option but he lacks a lot. Howard likewise was poo pooed. Any other ideas?

A pacy inside type would be nice too but that is easier said than done. Newton lacks that yard of speed and Moore and Young are still developing. A young Brad Couch equivalent would be the aim but as stated, easier said than done. Levi has been mentioned but lacks pace and can make some mistakes at time. Any ideas?

hmmm will probably have to look at the draft for these needs there wouldn't be a recruit such as lucas or tutt that would feel the need to come here. For the quick inside mid Dean Gore would be a perfect fit but wouldn't think he would be there if we traded our second round pick. White cover you could go by the draft combine results with Langdon and Drummond. Jarrod Garlett if he is to slip would be another good one but there some quick players in the back end of the draft who back themselves such as Dan McKenzie, cunico and castagna

We could also trade in Eric MacKenzie from WCE, Trent McKenzie from GCS, Jordie McKenzie from Melb and draft Reece McKenzie.....lol
Where's Agape?

Anyone think we should get Jared Petrenko? I wouldn't mind taking him as a rookie
Go sit in the corner and start giving yourself upper cuts until further notice.

Agree that Mitchell would be White's understudy/next in line, but in 2015 you'd think Amon would be pretty close. We recruited 3-4 guys (Flynn, Byrne Jones, Impey, Amon) last year with elite pace for this very reason. They may not have the barrel chest and confidence of White yet, but I think it'll come with experience.

Pacy inside types are worth quite a bit in the draft as they're likened to 'Judd/Dangerfield' types pre-draft and don't come around often. I think if one of the aforementioned speedsters could develop and take on a wing position, then someone like Polec with some extra size could be that player. He knows his way around a stoppage and would be faster than most centre square mids, just doesn't have the size atm.

Personally, Ah Chee is the pacy inside player that I think will add an extra dimension to our midfield... assuming he doesn't get delisted. :(

I've worked out how we can afford Jeremy Cameron. We get him and GWS to void his contract, then the AFL awards them a free agency band 1 compo pick, which is directly after their first pick at #4. We sign him as a free agent and pass over pick 17 - effectively giving them two first round picks for Jezza.
How long has this trading thing been going on?o_O Why doesn't every team who trades a contracted player away void their contract first and get two picks for the price of one?

Cos he hasn't been on their list long enough to be a free agent
I understand that. You realise that I wasn't being serious? Just pointing out the ridiculousness of the AFL ruling in the Ryder case.

for the same reason we can't just trade kavanagh for #17 while picking up Ryder as a DFA and Essendon take compo pick at #21 or whatever it is.

the deal using #17 must stand up on its own commercially, not only as "part of" the deal for ... whoever it is that generates the compo pick.

I like your thinking though ;)
