Since it is the silly season and footy topics are few and far between Here is one to throw around

What are the chances of Steven Wells being poached by another club?

Since he has been credited (by many in the know) with a large chunk of Geelongs recent success
These guys obviously are paid employees?? I guess would it be possible?

Pretty slim, but it can happy. I'm sure Essendon have considered it. If they were to go to Wells and say lets double your salary, then he would have to consider it. A recruiter is a funny kind of job as well, as you don't often watch the cats play, instead you spend thousands of hours watching mostly junior football and liaising with the network. Its that last point that makes it a slim point. Stephen Wells might head up recruitment, but he isn't the guy who first spots any of these players, its the network of spotters that is essential. And these guys aren't paid that much and they also tend to be fairly loyal club-wise. In other words Stephen can't just up sticks and recreate his success at another club as it takes time to get the network together.

Like the head of any department, Im sure its the staff he has with him as well that are just as important. Im not saying that Wells isn't a MASSIVE asset and should be retained at all costs, but Im sure he has a gun team that he works with as well.

Like any succesful company, the CEO is the face and often the brilliance but is supported by a great cast....

Best option is to keep them all!!:D

Go Catters..

I'm sure he's received offers from other clubs to jump ship in the past, considering he's been recruiting manager since 1994. He doesn't strike me as the type to just up and walk though, since he's been at the club in some capacity since 1984. In an industry with as much turnover as footy that's not just a job, that's a passion.

When they were setting up didn't GC go after him really hard?

If he wouldn't leave for all there money an lifestyle options I can't see another club being able to put a package together that would extract him out of cat land

Tres amusant above....

But I guess the first reply from Jim B sort of answers the question such as it was
A bit hard to buy a network developed over many years. Suppose that suggests that ( loyalties aside) SW is really just the sharp tip of a fairly well developed "iceberg'

As above it probably boils down to one thing, he's a Geelong supporter. I know I wouldn't leave to go work for another club if I was him :)
