I noticed in The Age an article on the amount of money clubs spend and i noticed Carlton was 14th in spending for recruiting. Now i know we are financially struggling but surely it's worth spending more on recruiting considering that is our future. They only way we are going to improve was by good recruiting and we need to fund this department as much as possible.

Agree in principle, but then again (and of course only time will tell) it seems like Hughes and his understudies hit some home runs last year, then again with picks #1 and #4 you couldn't go far wrong...hmm, well thinking back a few years maybe you can.

You can't spend money if you don't have it, and lets face it, Carlton do not have that much cash to throw around.

I do agree that our recruiting is our future, and we will just have to manage with the resources we have available to us at the moment. Once our one field efforts start to improve, this will hopefully bring back some members that did not renew this year, get some additional corporate sponsorship and go from there. It's a step by step process for us at the moment.

Maybe they can sacrifice on expenditure elsewhere like gameday functions, etc. That all costs money! Surely future development is more critical than wasting money on functions like a Presidents Lunch. Afterall, who needs a President's lunch every weekend!

The CFC used to have no worry in the world regarding cashflow. Think about it... 16 flags, strong sponsors (up until recent years). Where the hell did all of our money go??? I know the obvious answer but really think about it! I think the prob is far deeper than one man.

I would agree that we could spend more on recruiting... but we made the best possible choices in last years draft.

1 and 4 where pretty easy choices... Paul Bower will be a star and Jake Edwards was a bargain, and a real blank canvas that might be made into a Full Back with his closing speed and agility.
