Hey boys this is not a troll and yes essendon has got allan, murphy, campo, zantuck etc..... I was just having a look at your list and noticed a few names that when they came to your club they looked the goods but havent lived up to the promise they first showed.
Teague and Chambers are the two I am thinking of. I remember 2005 NAB (or was it wizard, changes every 5 mins) Cup. Chambers looked the goods. Kicked a few goals, pretty sure he got a 9 pointer ot two and you killed us. 10 goals or something. However, from what I can tell he hasn't done much since.
Teague is the other example.
What has happened to these guys? Lack of opportunity, hunger, skill??

Like any form of recruitng - its either going to be a hit or a miss, chambers looked promising but some of his skills are attrocious, and while David Teague had a good year in 2004 (winning our B&F) his kicking skills and lack of height - sort of outweigh the courage he shows ...

Jordan Bannister is looking alright though :p

Both players will be delisted at seasons end. Chambers just cannot make the step up from VFL to AFL, whilst Teagues lack of pace has been exposed by other clubs in the AFL.

Teague wont be delisted - he's contracted for 2007.

Really, I thought he originally signed a 1 year deal when he came to the club (for the 2004 season) and then a 2 year deal after he won the B&F (2005/2006 season)

Yeah I saw him take a good mark on the weekend. The reason we delisted him was not his skill but his work ethic and he was known to do dodgy things around the club. Jordan said before he was delisted from Essendon that if he had his time again he would have done things differently. Well done to you guys if you have got him to knuckle down and worry about his footy.
Teague sounds like your Soloman.

Jordan isnt safe yet - he is a chance to be delisted.

Whilst I don't agree with it and I think he should be given another contract, im not so sure Denis would agree with me... however Barry would :thumbsu:

I like Bannister. He's works hard, runs hard, hits the ball hard and is quick. Struggled with consistency at Carlton after a terrific finish to 2004 but I think with the above attribute he's the perfect person to give us run out of defence, rather than trying to manufacture it with our midfields. Been pretty happy with McGrath, another person who seemed to have found some sort of niche down back. Again, works very hard. Neither are superstars, nor will they ever be but no club has 38 superstars on their list. Some are stars, some are good, some are solid back-up foot soldiers (Bannister & McGrath), who'll never be match-winners but do a job that suited the their abilities, sometyhing every club needs, and other's who'll simply struggle to get a game. There, of course, is the perenniel whipping boys!. Every club has those types. Good clubs have more of the stars and good players, other's have youngsters that look as though they will make it in a couple of years (hopefully us). Some clubs need simply just a change somewhere, even if it's off the field (hopefully us again).

We've done ok from Essendon with Bannister & McGrath.

Correct. Damn, so we're going to have to keep him on this list for one more year. Unless we pay him out and we can put his salary under next years cap.

Teague might have just enough "browny points" from his B & F year to keep him going for one more. But he'll need to do something in that time.

for every recycled player picked up that is a success there is an equivilant player that is not a success, this is the same for drafting kids, wheather they be pick 4, pick 36 or pick 72.

you win some and you lose some.

I would have thought Teague's biggest problem was just lack of pace. If he was 6.1 and fast then he would imo be a regular in the 1's.

Exactly, but that's where opposition clubs take advantage of him. They'll put a quick player on him and exploit his lack of pace. IMO, he'll be lucky to get a game next year.

Yeh, I recall Teague matching up (if you can call it that) on Tredrea at AAMI in 05. He gets jobs that are normally way beyond him height and weight wise, and jobs that are nigh on impossible in regard to pace. He's a "tweener", caught between having good height and having good pace.

Couldn't agree more.

With the draft penalties and poor list we needed to become at least competitive our members/sponsors drop off.
You may remeber also getting Bower, Harford, Morrell, and Martyn. All 'handy players, but not champions - there to make sure the young guys did'nt get drubbed week in/out.
Worked to a small extent.
Chambers has the best endurance at the club, but lacks explosive pace and good skills under pressure (Bannister likewise, but to a lesser degree). Destined to become a F/T ant soon.
Teague should be thanked for showing no regard for his own safety when running atthe ball - a trait lost to our backline since SOS left. Now thornton, simpson, bentick are showing a hardness at the ball, maybe partly due to Teagues example. Teague is simply to slow. He is performing well in the two's where good awareness and hardness will winyou a lot of footy - his is not in defence by the way but generally inthe middle or up forward mostly.
Would need to re-invent himself as a in and under type to stay at the club or join the Carlton retirement home (otherwise known as the Essendon Football club).
McGrath is taking Russels place - I'm not in favour of just handing spots over to kids, but Russ has shown form in the two's, and I would rather see him play inconcistently than watch McGrath do it - there is a reason why the cats ditched him.

What about some of the other recycled guys?
McLaren - still young - may develop into a decent ruckman. God I hope he does.
French - ? out of contract end of next year - should retire unless hits a rare vein of form.

With drafting and recylcables u do win some and lose some... some top 10 picks have been disapointments e.g sylvia, mclean, harltett... while some have been good fev(35) and raines(74)... i just think that teague is too slow and small to play that role and unfortunately thats the only role he plays... so teagues time just might be up... but banister is good :)

McLean is a disapointment? Melbourne supporters would disagree. Bannister is ok. He will never be more then a worker in my opinion, I may be wrong. Was he redrafted? I thought he was delisted by Carlton. Could be wrong here too :D

There was talk that Bannister was going to be delisted last year but it never happened.

I just want to get rid of these two. Maybe you can suggest a couple of players from Essendon for a suitable trade?
