Getting rid of Cosgrove was as silly as getting him back.

When he was with us originally he averaged more than all our batters. After he left he entered his prime and continued to make more runs than all our batters. He made the most runs in the whole competition and won two shields.

Then when he hit 30yo we took him back, with a belated "fitness requirement" about a decade after it would have had some value.

He was a fat w***er with a shit attitude; getting rid of him was the right move, but it should've been done s lot earlier. He wasn't the cause of it, but he embodied all of the cultural failings that result in us being such a joke.

And getting him back was sheer stupidity.

Cricket's version of Bernie Vince.

That's a huge insult to Bernie.

The fat ****** with the shit attitude averaged more than all our other batsmen. I don't think people have truly taken this on board and understood the meaning.

What is important?

Runs. That's the only thing that matters.

We valued things other than runs so we got rid of him. It's akin to Noble's "non-statistical" roles. We valued batters who performed better on the beep test. We picked Nathan van Berlos instead. It's exactly what we criticise the Crows for.

If his fitness was a major issue it would have prevented him from being successful. It didn't. So it wasn't. Or, more accurately, it was perhaps issue #95 in terms of priorities on the list of things the Redbacks/SACA could improve.

I thought the Adcock years were the lowest we could go...

I like Head, I think he could be a good batsmen, but let the bloke actually cement himself in the side first for ****s sake...
Putting a young batsman as captain before he'd made a Shield ton himself was an exceptionally irresponsible decision IMO

Ferg makes 96 and has his helmet smashed in. Was a brute of a ball but very poorly played IMO. The Blues boys all looked concerned.

Made more than Burns and Kawaja

Gee Rowie was embarrassing with Boof on team selections last night. Rowie knows Boof can't say a thing about team selection, so stop bloody mentioning it! Even Boof is starting to get a little pissed off rather than having a laugh.

It all stems down to development really. The Grade Cricket comp in Adelaide is a joke and needs to be changed. All thats been done is change a couple of coaches and selection staff, the majority of the failures of players remain.

The toughest decision we made was to rid ourselves of Cozzie, which was a wrong one, and now we get him back past his prime.

I can accept one bad year, maybe 2 or 3 if you're gutting the squad but its been 20 years since we've won a Shield.
And we dumped Klinger in the process, only for him to score 14 tonnes in the past 12 months across all formats, behind Smith and Sangakara. Brilliant call SACA!

Rod was in Blyth last week at a friends do. Should have asked to be selected do you have to be from the east coast ?

Still got a ways to go but we could have a challenger. Does take more than 1 bad year though, the Reds won something last year.

Soccer's equivalent of the NAB Cup.

They're a joke this year - still haven't scored a goal off their own boot this season!

I guess that's what we can say about our 2 pre-season cups too
Difference is the A League clubs wanted to win it, and their opponents even moreso. As bad as they are travelling they're miles ahead of the Redbacks.

The FFA Cup is not in any way the equivalent of the NAB Cup

Well, they both have three initials, and they're both cups. What more do you want?

Okay, so I've just looked up Keath's score for the weekend, and I figure I should actually find out for good.

What hell kind of format is our grade cricket? I've never bothered to find out before, I've just looked at the scores. I always assumed it was some kind of squished up time-wise test match. So how is it done, is it 2 innings each over two consecutive Saturdays?

1 innings each over 2 Saturdays. There are chances for an 'outright' win but generally speaking its 1 apiece.

Nice start to today's match v Alcohol? Think Again.

5/86, with DD and Mennie with the wickets.
