Too many grade clubs and levels IMOElite youth cricketers are almost non existent in this state.
They have 'elite' squads, u17 and u19 every year, but it seems like years go by where no one from those squads ever go on to play state cricket.

That does go against the Australian cricket team philosophy of "we have to have an all rounder"For decades the junior state coaches focused so hard on one skill. They wouldn't let all rounders be all rounders, everyone had to focus on one skill.
If you chose batting you might not bowl for 3 or 4 training sessions. It was purely dumb.
The system was horrid when i went through there in the early 2000s and its actually gotten worse from reports from inside the organisation.
Talent hasnt been the issue. Identification, coaching and pathyways are a big issue.

FWIW I don't have an issue with that line of thinking. Batsmen are batsmen, bowlers are bowlers.
I wouldn't use Glenn as an example, he almost exclusively bowled from his state career until his later test yearsIt was almost exclusive though and made no sense. Especially at teenage level where kids are stil growing into their bodies, learning, adapting, figuring out new skills.
Imagine theyd made glenn mcgrath focus on batting and never handed him a ball (he was a batsman in his teenage years).
Would've made 3rd grade?
Modern cricket its smart to have guys that can bowl in your batting lineup. Lose your key spinner to injury and your fast bowlers cant bowl 30 overs each in a day.
Also how handy was it having guys like warne, lee, gillespie, johnson and now pattinson etc who can go for a 100 partnership with a batsman.

Most of the other guys you mentioned worked on their batting during injury layoffs like Cummins and Starc.
That has more to do with mindset rather than technique.Yes but not in his junior career.
Up until about 15-16 he was a batsman.
This is my point. Imagine he'd been a half decent batsman (and in the elite pathways) and never been allowed to develop the fast bowling skill.
It makes sense for a 25 year old. Not for a 15 year old.
Australia has always had a higher requirement of bowlers holding the bat. And over the past 30 years its won us more than a few test matches.
It doesnt start with Cummins or Starc. Goes all the way back to the 90s. Warne, Gillespie, Lee etc making handy 20s, 30s that other test sides could never get from their tail.
That has more to do with mindset rather than technique.
Bit of a "get the local boy home" trade really.Stanlake traded for Worrell in the Strikers team. Good trade for the Strikers imo. Stanlakes pace often proved a liability in the t20 format.
He was suited fine here when we won itStanlake might go alright at the MCG bowling back of a length. Was not suited to Adelaide Oval at all and wasn’t bright enough to figure that out.

If Franky can stay fit he might be a good pick up, but Billy wasn't that bad.
