DISCLAIMER: If you are going to be spiteful, negative or just plan old angry, you are not welcome in this thread. This is a positive thread to talk about one of our most promising youngsters, take your 'sack Hardwick' propaganda elsewhere.

Now that that's done, I wanted to talk about our first round pick this year and what a delight he has been to watch. Almost always makes the right decision and has exquisite skills when executing those decisions. He also has that intangible skill of knowing where everyone is around him, which allows him to create the illusion of having more time than he actually does, similar to Dal Santo and Pendlebury.

His field kicking is a joy to watch, and with more confidence his goal kicking will come along as well (can't believe the goal umpire robbed him of his first? goal yesterday.)

But why I really wanted to make this thread was to highlight that this kid has gonads the size of my head. His attack on the ball should never be brought into question and his collision with Stokes yesterday is a reminder to those who have questioned it. He flew into that contest yesterday, with winning the ball his only goal, something not enough of our players care to reciprocate.

So here's to you Reece Conca, a shining light in an up and down year, may you continue to wear the jumper with pride for many more years.

Go Tiges!

Really like this kid, he went in to the contest very hard on a number of occasions yesterday, and has done so many other times this year. He will be a very good player for the club:thumbsu:

I'll go with PTF.
There is a bit to like but i too keep my powder dry.All up though Conca,Batchelor and helbig have been encouraging at the very least.

Think I have been watching different games ?
Reckon Conca is OKish - think he has been 'hyped' up a bit more than warranted here though ?

Fair enough, it just depends on what you value in a footballer and what you want them to be good at. Conca either excels at, or is very good at all things I rate highly in football.

His skills under pressure, work ethic, attack on the ball, awareness and perception of time and what to do in that time are all excellent. Conca is the thinking man's footballer.

Yeah I like Conca, I can see him being a very good contributor for years to come. Won't be a superstar, but will play 200 games.

He will be a good player, i dont think he has any xfactor to him that you would hope to have with Pick 6. But he know his place on the footy feild.
No blame on Conca, but Tom Lynch, Gorrige, Darling would look good in the yellow & black & as far as a midfielder /half back goes , Dyson Heppell would be IDEAL

15 games or so is difficult to judge a player. who would have thought swan or GAJ would be where they were after 15 games.

there is some aspects of his game that i like a lot and some aspects which i dont dislike but just dont like as much as his good stuff.

pace may be an issue but if he is destined to be an inside mid like im hoping for then he wont require it, a little light on atm but that can be rectified over a couple of pre-seasons.

hindsight is a killer but like delids said we have missed some beauties to get him but as the old saying goes "time shall tell"

I honestly think that he could be anything. If hes shown so much in his first afl season why do we think he will only be a good player? Could be a star, has the skills to develop into a gun midfielder someday. Im happy we took him over Heppel.:thumbsu:

Will be a 250 game player. Can't see him ever winning a B&F but I can see him finishing top 3-5 consistantly. Runs hard and kicks well.

I must say though that the contest with Stokes says more about stokes courage than Concas....Conca went the bump not the ball. Nothing wrong with that but it's not exactly what I would label as courage.

He is the least of our worries!!
Seems a likely type and has played quite well in a team that has had goals raining in on them..

Agree.

Disagree.

After watching that footage a few times on replay it was clear as day that Conca was going for the ball but only decided at the last second to protect himself as Stokes had gotten to the ball before him, he tucked the arm up slightly for protecting but he was definitely going for the ball first.

This. That's what I saw.

Even if he didn't have his eyes on the ball 100%. To put your body on the line knowing you're going to get hurt shows his courage.

Once he gets a couple pre-seasons under his belt he'll be a beauty.

I think the young fella has big Ka-hounis . very easy for a 1st year player to go into his shell after whats been happening but Concs just keeps at it, showing genuine strength of character as well as solid all round game. For me it's a no brainer the kid will be something special after a few preseasons and a leader of the club. It would be interesting to see how his stats stack up at seasons end to other first years, particularly his disposal efficiency. At a guess he'd be top 3-5. Go Reece!! & Tiges!!

Biggest thing for me that I love about Conca is that the kid can take a hit and get straight back up and fight on, I remember against Port he copped 2-3 massive knocks in a row and I think he hurt his wrist and had copped a bit of a head knock, the kid goes to the bench for 5 mins comes back on fights it out, the kids got heart and I love that as a first year player he keeps fighting on.

Richmond don't need players with 'x factor'. We need players like Joel Corey, Corey Enright, James Kelly etc. players that are hard-at it, no frills, but get the job done very, very well. People say FJ is a high-risk recruiter. I disagree, he is playing it very safe but selecting players that are more than likely to play 150 games and avoiding high risk 'x factor' players (well, during the last draft anyhow).

One thing you can not teach is Guts and Determination.

Conca has these traits; do not forget he had an injury interrupted pre-season (ankle).

Give him a couple more season to build up and he will show why he was taken so early.
