He is a decent kick but when you come back from a heap of injuries especially consistently it does throw your confidence a bit. I did a knee playing local footy and it took me a whole season to start playing the game the way I use to again. I think it's more mental than a physical thing.

Remember his square up kick against the Saints a few years back.....on that kick alone I would keep him lol + his Geelong game last year.
Tambling had a couple of neat highlights too. ;)

Having said that, I'm still holding out a bit of hope for Conca's return. Nice guy, and can play.

My point is he has upside and we get nothing for trading him unfortunately.
That Geelong game showed what he could be, that potential is worth far more than what we would get for him right now.

Keep him give him all the time to get right, then build some fitness and consistent form in the twos, possibly squeezing a game or two in the firsts, if he breaks down again I reckon he's cooked

I think maybe Reece is one of those examples of taking a punt on playing a new/High draft a bit soon and the punt goes the wrong way in terms of injuries.....

I've written Conca off. By that, I don't mean I say he has no talent or won't make it. I mean I'm not hanging out for his return. If he can contribute significantly in the future, that's a pleasant surprise.

From what I've seen of Conca in his four years - he looks an OK player at best. Definitely not Top 10. In the last 3 years he's played 18, 17, and 19 games (so no one can say he hasn't had a chance) - and finished below 15th in our B&F each year. He certainly hasn't shown any dazzling skill set.

So he's a depth player - another one of many mids who can do all right without setting the world on fire. The VFL is full of them. Is he better than Macintosh, or Menadue, or Ellis who have taken his spot this year - we don't know yet - they haven't played enough. Would adding the Conca of the last 3 years back into the current team significantly improve it? Possibly - probably not. We're not missing him.

Ok - I accept he may have injury (or attitude) problems which have prevented him reaching his full potential. If he gets mind and body right - maybe he turns into a champ - hey! Bonus! Otherwise, if he just gets fit and returns to his previous level - well, OK, more depth. If he doesn't and he never plays again - well, we've had worse draft picks - some you win, some you lose. He'd be in the 'Bit Disappointing' category. If he was Pick 30 we 'd say - 'OK, without setting the world on fire'.

I still think our best outcome is to get him fit, and trade him back to WA on a 'go-home' deal. We would probably get overs for him, being a former Top-10 pick forced to move interstate. If we get a top-30 pick in return we roll the dice at the draft again - maybe we strike lucky, maybe we bomb out, and maybe we get another Conca.

You make a compelling case for moving him on.
But we have a serious lack of midfield depth.
And at his age Conca should have his best football ahead of him - if he can stay on the park.
My guess is that they will 'roll the dice' by giving him another year or so to show what he can do.

Biggest concern is his lack of pace and size as our core group of midfielders are mostly smallish and slowish, he looses out to a guy like Ellis and McIntosh in the 50/50 selection calls.

Speaking to Connor Menadue a month or so ago. I was a little surprised to hear Reece Conca is top 5 maybe better for speed at the club....

Has he had his grandma reattach his lasagnastring yet?

Whats the usual recovery time from lasagnastring surgery?

It's pretty much been nailed in this thread, it's all about his potential v what we can get for him.

2 years ago when we turned down a first for him, in hindsight you would of course take it.

This year we would get a 3rd at best for him because of his injuries, it would be silly to do so. Are we likely to find someone of Conca's potential in the third round, especially with this year being a shallow draft? I doubt it.

Only way I can see him leaving this year is part of a bigger deal, our First pick + Conca for Shiel/Hanners or something, outside of that we'd be silly to get rid of him
