Has there been update on Tippett? I know if we made the Grand Final he was most likely to play but he looked pretty bad after what happened against Carlton.

Haven't heard anything other than Horse saying he would play next week if we won the prelim, it's also why im hoping he doesn't get anywhere near the ruck!

Does anybody know the recovery time on this hybrid lars operation?

Given it was a recurrence injury and the setbacks that other young guys like menzel and morobito have had, my expectations for AJ this year are the same as rohan last year, and that is senior games will be a bonus

Yeah, unfortunately I feel the same way:(

Mal was back playing after 15 weeks , Menzel re ruptured his not set backs. AJ had his op late July , I don't think AJ and Shaw would have had Lars if they didn't think they could play in 2014 at all otherwise no point going Lars , you would just go tradional and at Shaws age he didn't go Lars for no reason

LARS is one thing, but his fitness base will be rubbish after missing a year. I think he'll play ressies, and i hope we see him after the bye round 10 when he's got his fitness and confidence back.

Agree mate was more talking about the length of Lars

Was just jarring of the knee and usually that clears up after a couple of weeks. You can play with it.

I think we'll see AJ, Reid, Goodes & Mitchell at the start of the season. Walsh probably some point during the season but not sure about Shaw, hopefully he trains in the preseason - we could really use him.

Does anybody know the recovery time on this hybrid lars operation?

Moroabito is the only other AFL player to have Hybrid. So we don't know yet. Given that the Hybrid also involves connections to the hamstring tendons and AJ already significant lay off with his first reco you would think strengthening the hammy would be a must. I'd say he's be in rehab to at least Feburary.

Went back and had a look what Matt Cameron said after AJ op (Last update from the Swans)

Cameron said Johnson would now follow the standard rehabilitation procedure , which should see the number 34 return at the beginning of the 2014 season.

He's really going to follow a typical Lars program and that will take us into the off season he said

Well have longer before training will start , so he's going to be ready we expect by round 1

I think the thing I take out of looking at other players' past recos (particularly were LARS is used) is it's simply different for each player. Mal was lucky to be able to get back so quick. Menzel not so much. Rodan was back quickly but re-injured himself. I'm sure Mal overcame the mental side of it better than most but he must have also had the physical recovery required (strength AND fitness) to get back so soon and not re-injure himself. As I said, I'm sure luck also played a big part as well. That may not be the same from player to player. Each will have different aspects they are more/less comfortable with and can achieve to a greater/lesser extent than the next guy.

Given AJ's age and experience I'm expecting him to take a little longer to get himself right. He didn't go into the injury as a battle hardened fully built long time senior AFL player. He doesn't have the same motivation to get back out there before his career is over either. So I can see him taking a bit longer than may be the case otherwise. No dramas from my point of view as all we want is a fit and firing AJ back at some point. I don't care if it's 6-9 months later than it "could" be so long as it's when he "should" be back.

PS: Also good to see Tommy Walsh should be back for pre-season. I'm hoping he can get a few games in 2014 and show some good things. I don't know what it is about him, I just have this feeling he could be a really great player for us.

How's the Tommy Walsh fan club coming along ? Any more membership applications 'flooded' in ?

No seriously, I too would like to see him do well. Can't believe Saints and Swans could both be wrong about him, though sometimes i wonder if we were all besotted by thoughts of the second coming of Tadgh.

Come on Tommy. Prove your doubters wrong. If Jesse White could do it. So can you.

Tip had knee bruising (bruised bone), very painful but not long term. Week maybe two to rest then into the frey. He would be already into the fitness on track with all the others. They do their own fitness in the off season until preseason starts and apparently he is a keen trainer.

Yeah I've had that before from falling off a step. You can play with it but it hurts a lot and it limits your movement. 2 weeks of rest is enough to clear it up. But had we made the GF he would have been probably 65% ~ 75%

Would have been useless in the GF if we had made it and could have suffered a setback in the injury.

The Tommy Walsh fan club has been slow but I have full confidence he can show something in 2014. The treasurer and I agreed that we'd hold off on producing the caps and shirts for now until he gets a few games though... I have only recently divested myself from the Jessie White fan club to the Tommy Walsh fan club so it'll take a while to re-adjust however I'm hopeful Tommy can fill the void. IMO Tommy is much more of a beast than Tadgh was. He seems to be more of a pure athlete than Tadgh too, so hopfully he can use some of his physical attributes better than Jesse managed to.

I was pleased to see Tommy running out with the 1-4 yr squad even if he did only light training. If ever a guy deserves a break it must be Tommy. Worked his butt off last year and was really looking good until that awful moment (did they have to replay it over and over ?). Me, I like to see the hard workers make it (guys like Kirk). Much more than the ultra talented I like the guys who get there 'cause they want it so bad. That was always my beef with Jesse. You could see he had the talent but it took the threat of the guillotine to get him motivated.

This year I want to see Tommy put up his hand as the next LRT. He needs to say "I want another Dad" and mean it.
