Draft picks are useless to teams who overate them.

They should be used to top talent levels up not build with.

teams like carlton and hawthorn i mean your overating the picks

If you are saying that in hindsight there are drafts that are strong and drafts that are weak, then how do you know the value of the players in the draft, without a crystal ball.

If you are saying that before the draft you know how valuable a player (in this case Reilly, who was drafted with a first round pick in 2001, is 23, has played 68 games, and unlike several other players seems content at Adelaide) relative to all of the players in the draft, then I'm amazed. Who would have thought that Hird would have gone on to be the champion he was at pick 70-something. Would you rank Travis Johnstone the 1998 number 1 draft pick ahead of Hird?

Are you serious?? No one does, but all clubs have recruiting programmes setup to identify the best talent in the land. If every club had a crystal ball you would have not seen some of the draft blunders over the years :rolleyes:

Yes, I would say that ;)

How about you go back over the years from 1991 and have a look at how many superstars the game has today and where they were taken in the draft. I reckon you will find that James Hird is the only SUPERSTAR that has played the game since the draft started that was taken from a pick lower than pick 40

BTW I wonder what the state of clubs recruiting departments were back then when James Hird was drafted. I can guarentee you that they would be no where near as good as they are today.
