Got suspended by the leadership group for staying out late.

:confused:WOULD it be too much to ask of these guys to pull their f***** heads in?????
Guys like Taylor and Roberts have been in the AFL system all of five minutes and both have have brought unnecessary attention upon themselves and the club.
Simply not acceptable from any player - from Newman to Simmonds to Deledio through Riewoldt and all the way down to Roberts, nason and guys on the rookie list like Contin.
FFS ... they are there to play football!!!

I said this over on the Dream Team board (I don't have Roberts in my DT BTW), but it's worth repeating here -

I know everyone is different, but if I was plucked from the AFLQ at 24 years old and given a spot on an AFL rookie list, and managed to work my way into getting a game in Round 1, I'd be tucked in bed at 9pm every night and doing everything within my power not to jeopardise my spot in the side. Some players just don't seem to value the truly special opportunity they have to play at AFL level.

Agreed. I know these guys need a social life, but playing AFL football is a priviledge, not a right. Needs to pull his head in, for a team that is pathetic as it is - this behaviour is just not on anymore.

Couldnt agree more, sure its just 1 discretion as far as we know, but he has been given an opportunity to really make something of himself when he has come from nowhere. You would think he would be doing training as hard and as often as he can not out on the piss not even a week after his AFL debut.

This was always going to be a problem for him.playing in the big time, but still with a small time mentality. I hope this is a wake up call, but it's a big adjustment.

yep agree. anyone wonder why such a talent has been overlooked so much.
it was never about talent but most other things.

same goes for taylor why did such a talent slip so much the only logical answer is attitude and mental toughness/discipline the ability to give up certain how shall we say luxurys.

we may have adopted a policy of taking players with skills but with out the right attitude skills are not worth to much.
and it seems to me herein lies the problem with both lads. lets hope they realise nothing is for nothing and you reap what you sow and they knuckle down and actually grasp the opportunity they have been given.
in all honesty i have my doubts ive seen to many like them find it all just to hard.

the answer is simple... he shouldn even be playing afl.
the way he moved around last thursday, ud think he didnt wanna be there... nason had trunovers, sure, but at least he was hittin the packs hard, an taking the game on, TRYING to keep his place in the side, TRYING to give the tiges some life...
how did roberts even get selected to play afl.. slow, fat, short.. everything a modern day footballer, ISNT!

I reckon it's his age that got him selected, there's no time to wait around for him to develop. Throw him to the wolves see how much he wants it and if it looks within his capabilities. I don't think Hardwick's gonna cut any of the mature 'probables' any slack this year. Dumb move by Roberts, he'll have to earn another shot now.

FFS Relton - piss poor

2 new recruits already showing signs that they are not taking this AFL caper seriously - pull your head in:thumbsd:

the boy sure has some toe but i've yet to see his freakish skills. his one shot at goal on the run spray to the right. he also needs to put that pace to some defensive pressure like the davey boys.

i think the difference between a club like geelong and richmond is they both take skillful players but geelong are able to get a most out of these players and develop their full potential. e.g. just look at the attitudes of mackie, mooney, and steve johnson before geelong succeed. mackie was a bit of a party boy and now is a gun running backman. mooney was getting suspended every 2nd twice before he become the big forward we need down in the goal square. and stevie j went from a half season suspension to norm smith medalist. there is no guarantee these players would have been as good in other sides. i admire what richmond have been able to do with ben cousins, keeping him doing what he has best to offer this world, playing footy. if richmond can develop a culture like hawthorn where they are not afraid to suspend players like luke hodge for indiscretions or geelong taking a tough stand on stevie j, i can't see why players like roberts can't be a big part of your club's future success. btw, thanks for bradley ottens guys.

you guys know how long he has been banned for?

good luck for the rest of the year.

I would let Relton off just the once for the following reasons:

1. He is 24 , this is his last chance if he isn't going to make it this year he is gone because I for one would not risk 2 years of the clubs time on what he has shown so far.

2. He has come from a far off environment so there will be an adjustment. Maybe this was needed to take the edge off and clear up any ambiguities. A bit of minimal rip and tear can be constructive if the outcome is positive like a Stevie J.

3. He needs to sharpen up physically. So know he can run around the oval another 1000 times or so , clean himself up a bit, and focus on the fact this is his last chance- crash or burn baby, whats it going to be .

4. Its Relton's call know ship up or ship out!!!

sheesh you drinking from the same well as me. i find myself once again agreeing. gunna have to do something about that find your own bloody well.

If I remember your post correctly, we still need Tambling, Gilligan and Edwards to get in trouble before you are proven right.
I said Tambling was excluded from my presumption for abvious reasons (i.e. leadership of other indigineous players, role model etc.), and Edwards is barely half aboriginal and has not come from the culture I was talking about in my post. Tambling and Edwards were never part of my argument.

Gilligan we'll wait and see. I'm not trying to be a "know it all" but I want some respect if i'm willing to put my nuts on the line. Forums need people with inside info to come out and give it at times to make them interesting.

Okay, but the club knew what they were getting into with Taylor and Roberts before we drafted them. Both have ****ed up once in pretty much the exact way that we could have expected. Disappointing, sure, but these things happen when you get such talents so cheaply. Hopefully both can improve their attitudes and become important players for us. The fact that we've suspended Roberts for a game shows that we're serious. If he doesn't take the hint, he's the one that blows an opportunity and we've only lost a rookie selection.
