Better still used to cost 50c a game if u were u15
- (which I was till i turned 21)
Even better, went to Vic Park and some Pie kids showed me how to climb up this oak tree at Falls end and land on ladies dunnies roof in members. Gatekeeper was always miffed as to why I wanted to go into public area so fast.
If you had a good day (or a bad one) - oh well....didn't cost me a thing
:) :D :)

Terraces.
Wooden stands with pitched roofs and tarred floors.
Marlboro Football Awards.
The memorabilia shop at Princes Park burning down.
Real passion.
The umpire was a White Maggot.
Six games on Saturdays.
Not having endless media inquisitions into scuffles on the field.
Old blokes in overcoats and hats standing in the outer.
Bragging rights were about premierships, not about how much sponsorship you had.

What year was that? 98/99?

Remember when the AFL was known as the VFL...

Round 22 1999.

It was an eventful round, for sure, including the last game at Waverley, last game at Victoria Park.

- Goal umpire indicated a goal where ever he was at the time, instead of at the centre of the goal line.
- The big long club signs that went around the fence.
- Drop kicks.
- Actual punches being thrown - not jumper punches.
- The Winners.
- Very high scoring shootouts - 300 points plus.
- Mud on an oval.
- Very low scoring scraps on a mud heap.
- Ron Andrews/Mark Jackson.

There was a centre Diamond?
Details?

If I had my way I'd have grown up Victorian - all these stories make me psuedo-nostalgic.

- Drop kicks.
My preferred kick :P
Watch my teammates awe at the accuracy.

Streamers being waved
Toilet paper being thrown, and the giant piles of it on the boundary line.
You could put up an umbrella at the footy if it was raining.
Manual scoreboards, which even had the race results on it.

Up to and including 1972 there was no restriction to how many players were at the centre bounce. In '73 the VFL introduced a centre diamond which was a square turned 45 degrees so the corners pointed to the goals and wings.

In '74 it was rotated 45 degrees and has stayed as a square since.

Keep an eye out for '73 footage on FF.

I remember when................

You could run on the ground after the game and pat your favorite player on the back.

There was a reserves match on before every senior game.

You could stand in the outer.

You could go and watch you team train after work.

Port wore black and white, played Grand Final after Grand Final and won most of them.

It was a 15mt penalty.

Players used to have a beer and smoke in the rooms after a game and not a bottle of powerade.

They had a guy riding a motor bike on a wire at Carrara at half time.
