Don’t get me wrong, I like Elvis - but even he admitted that he was riding on the coattails of Little Richard (in particular), Jackie Wilson and so on.

Have you ever read what Elvis had to say about Little Richard? It seems not.

Don't get me wrong, Little Richard was a great singer, but Elvis didn't ride on the coattails of anyone full stop. He grew up poor in a neighbourhood with white and Indigenous children and often went to church to listen to the singing and preaching that filled his curiosity. Now when he was little, did some of that music rub off on a young "Elvis", of course it did, as he grew to be a teenager, "Elvis" embraced lots of styles and songs that were sung in the day and ended up orchestrating his own style of singing and dancing, which for a white man in that era was unheard of.

Elvis often said about some of the singers in that period of time that they "felt the music" and many other things but to say {Elvis} himself said he rode on the coattails of anybody is taking something out of context I feel. Elvis praised many people {singers} in those early days but the truth of the matter is, without Elvis coming along and doing what he did, we wouldn't of had rock and roll and that's including Little Richard, Jackie Wilson and several other great singers of the time who were already doing their stuff. Some of the legends of music had been quoted as saying, "without Elvis we wouldn't have made it"!

Elvis once said the greatest singer in his opinion was Roy Orbison because he had the perfect voice, another legend and great singer but does that make "Roy" the greatest singer of all time just because Elvis said so? His favourite singer was a singer back in the day called Roy Hamilton who not many people would have heard of, so as you see there area lot of things that transpired to make Elvis who he was meant to be.
In the end, we all have our own opinion about singers, and where we rate them, from country to pop to rock & roll to heavy metal and so on, if indeed Little Richard is your king of rock & roll then may you play and listen to a great singer and enjoy his music for as long as you can! My opinion is that music whatever your taste, is the "soothing" in life that everybody needs and can be very uplifting, emotional and joyous in many ways as possible and as humans we need that in our life.
