we desperately need the percentage boost and hence need our best team
Not really, should we win all our games from here and Sydney lose 2 (Geelong/Hawks), Collingwood lose to Hawthorn we make top 4.
Sheedy's last ever home game as a coach. GWS already promoting same.
I can also recall Sheedy's last ever home game at Essendon. ;)

IF a loss won't negatively affect ladder position, and IF a player or two really do need a rest, then it would be wrong not to rest them.
If my two "ifs" are valid then what's more important than having a fresh Maric, Newman, Vlastuin, for a final (FFS)...winning a nothing game?

Last year we rested Maric and (effectively) Dusty against GC and we lost... Let's not risk that again.

Also, percentage could matter for the final positions, go lets put them to the sword with our best team.

yeah kiwi. i agree. mind you, clarkson resting buddy and hodge regularly under the cover of injury. how's the cricket tiger ?

Noel,

We will not flirt with form two weeks out from.......ahem.........Finals.

Did you get my photo from Durham of the guy wearing the old Royboy jumper?

Disappointing end to the Test.

See you soon.

Wouldn't rest any of the stars. Momentum important for our most consistent players. For those guys that aren't as consistent (Newy, Grigg, Foley), it may be worth giving them a bit of a rest. Think the likes of Dea and Lonergan wouldn't mind a crack at GWS to put their names in at the front of people's minds just before finals.

When I made the thread these were the 3 I had in mind most.
Maric - groin issues and has had a massive workload over the last two years. Against GWS Stephenson could do a more than serviceable job.
Newman - partly because I'd hate to see him get injured but also a large part is hes over 30 and the body might not be able to get up for each game as it once could. A week to freshen up could be handy.
Vlastuin - first year players can tire towards the end of a long year, would also give us a chance to see someone like Helbig or McDonough get a game of senior footy.

good thread OP, i don't think any player should be rested this week, and i would only rest maric / vlastuin / cotchin / edwards / king / newman against the giants.
reasons you would rest players.
1)they are older
2)they are sore
3)have had niggling injuries
4)are injured.

you could only pick 2, maybe 3 players to rest, or you are screwing with the sides form and structure too much… if they don't need a rest however, don't give them one for the sake of it...

id say one of maric or vlastuin won't play against gws.

Would rest Maric and anyone who wasn't 100%.

Don't want to flirt with take Jack out for McBean. Jack could kick a bag against GWS and give him some form running in to finals.

I would only consider resting players with carrying niggles or guys who need to be carefully managed and are crucial to the team - Maric might be one to consider and possibly someone like Foley or Chaplin given they are a bit older

Not a great comparison given some of the duds that played that day like A Maric, Webberly and co. Depth has improved a lot.

I'd be resting Vlastuin and Maric at the very least. In S Edwards, Big O. Maybe Jack too given the hits he cops every week and all the wear and tear and surgery his body has been through lately. Week off might give him that little extra spring. In A Edwards or McBean.

King, Newman will also be ready. If we rest a few it's not like we will be playing half a side of kids.

Besides Kingy we've got our best 22 available this wknd. If we can't beat GWS with 2-3 players out of our best 22 then we don't deserve to be in the finals.

If it helps get a few players 100% for week 1 then absolutely do it.

Rest 2 of our under performing players to help give them a boost for finals. We won't miss them if they aren't performing anyway.

The moment we disrespect the opposition by resting players we lose. Not a good idea.
