We need McParlin, pav and Co in top form come finals if they are injured again at the end of the year I will spit chips

Both should be rested twice this year, as should other players like mono

Have you seen Hogan play?
He's played 4 games.

Anyway.. SCOS is out of practice, and it's probably the 2nd half of the season where this needs to be assessed anyway. But Our midfield's pressure to make the ball come in high and looping would make things hard for any key forward, Hogan included.

IF we do - Rd 22 at home to Melbourne maybe. But only if we are top 2 guaranteed. When Geelong used to do it they were doing it with their older blokes - not one lump sum of guys sitting out.

Let's just try and keep a lid on it and not get ahead of ourself. Melbourne this week will give us a rumble.

No no no!!! Too early - gotta build some momentum and get a whole bunch of wins on the board. And that young upstart Hogan needs a lesson from the wiley old veteran in McPharlap to learn he ain't gonna have it all his own way in this AFL caper...

Gotta give him another reason to come over here - to never want to play 1 on 1 against Elvis ever again.

Nooo I hate resting players unless they truly need it. If anything, rotate the sub around so a different person gets a bit of a rest each week

Elvis will never ever play as a sub. Starting a KPP as sub is effectively playing one short.

Unless we're morons, we'll rest McPharlin at some point. Not now, too early, but come Rnds 10+ we must find a game or two to rest him. I'd say Sandi and maybe Pav too, but I suspect the coaching staff will be very reluctant to do that unless they're showing overt injury concerns.

At what point do we rest players?

If so, who?

I think Mcpharlin for silvagni next week.
Against a team that came back to beat us from 50+ points down at half time (yes I was there when Austiiiiiiiiiiin kicked all those goals against us) you want to REST PLAYERS???? Do the names Dawes, Howe, Hogan and Watt mean nothing to you????

Dawes, Howe, Hogan and Watt

(Yes well they mean nothing to me either, but Nathan Jones can jump high and Elvis is needed to defend him, at least until Zac or Silva are back...)

Hasn't Ross come out and said that McPharlin (maybe Pav as well) won't be rested until the back half of the season?

And that (I think) assumed that Zac and Silva were available... How can we "rest" Elvis without a replacement?

If we're in a position to do so, then it's pretty obvious we should rest a few later on in the season against the lesser teams. Example, rest McPharlin against Carlton at home and rest Johnson/Sandilands against Brisbane. Even subbing players out when we have a good lead against lesser teams is ideal, like subbing Pav out if we're 10 goals up midway through the third against St Kilda.

Would you consider resting Walters next week if he has an ankle injury?

When you have Sheridan, Ballantyne, Crozier and co already to come in, surely you shouldn't play a 80-90% Walters against Melbourne.

Yep, players with niggles could be rested in games like Melbourne. Also, Sandilands and MacPharlin need to be "managed", but it feels too early for that. I think it is important to have players like Silvagni and Griffin/Hannath exposed to a few afl games during the year as they play in critical areas for us where there is a realistic chance they will be needed during a grueling season.

The other thing is our fade outs. Perhaps there are issues that can be addressed by rotating some fresh players such as Crozier, Sheridan etc.
