Rewiring internal phonelines

G'day guys,

Have been experiencing very slow internet at my house, so got by ISP internode to check it out.. This is what they said.

When a technician performed testing on your service they have found that their modem connects at a much faster speed at the Network Boundary Point (NBP).

With technicians modem on the line at the NBP:

Thu Apr 29 15:23:55 2010
Connection speed (downstream/upstream) - 12352/1030 kbps

Your modem when connected at your socket:

Thu Apr 29 15:26:34 2010
Connection speed (downstream/upstream) - 2296/921 kbps

This testing shows that there is approximately 9 Mbps of connection speed being lost between the first point of entry into the property and your wall socket. This points to an issue with the internal wiring of the property.

So basically, I assume i need to get some new internal phone lines put in my house? What sort of businesses do this (what should I look up in the Yellowpages/google), What sort of costs are involved?, Will getting new internal phone lines fix my problem?

could be anything, maybe some of the cables are damaged and/or suffering from interference etc...

i think a standard electrician does that kind of stuff.

Yeah a sparky is your first point of call, although if you do get any work done (ie replacing existing cabling) make sure they don't throw a clueless apprentice at the job.

If it is your house and you are planning to keep it for a while I'd even look into specialist commercial cabling companies. May cost a little more but these guys generally have the experience to do it properly first time.

Yeah it is my house. We have a family friend that is a sparky and has done all the work on my house as well as the oldies house, so I might give him a crack at it

if he's the guy that laid the phone line in the first place that might not be a great idea

unless of course he's gonna do it for free..

Phone lines is just standard twin core, not that hard to run yourself

Edit : That's if you're only talking internal to the house not the copper back to the street. That would need telstra to work on.

Its not this place is 30 years old. I moved in mid April

Yeah it's pretty much the same as running audio cabling, cheap twin core.
