What are your favourite 'Rexisms', or nicknames Rex used for players over the years?

Unfortunately he doesn't use them as often now, but Notta Wellman, Buck Rogers (Matt), Brent Heaver Brick, the Chrone Moterbike in Harley, Yellow Brick Croad, Hay (hey, hey, hey?), Watt (what? what? what?) and Whaddyamean Wasley are some of the better ones.

Also used to love the way he pronounced players three-syllable surnames when they saw the ball out of bounds as play came to a halt (Heff-er-nan, Pev-er-ill, Cross-is-ca, Lock-i-yer).
 
As a football commentator he is a complete abomination. Past his use by date after probably his 2nd year. A disaster.

I really wish the bearded twit would just go away and do fishing shows or whatever else he does.
 
Rex showed his true colors last year with his little sex scam. I know private life is private but he made it public and involved it as part of his public persona.

He is a Dill but as with these types some people like him, every show needs it's Clown..... The AFL has a few.

He completely lost all his credibility after that. It doesn't really matter what media people get up to in their private life. But Rex Hunt had his image built on being the faithful family guy, and often referred to it in his commentary. He also regular blasted Carey for his indiscretions. So when Rex's scandal became public, he lost credibility as people could no longer trust in anything he said. Since then he has been sacked for the pre match and doesn't come on the air until the match starts.

3AW have a massive credibility problem at the moment. Rex has no credibility. Gerard Healy lost his credibility late last year when the truth about his Cousins campaign surfaced.

I think it's not so much just 3AW but all AFL media who have lost their credibility. The fact that they have to be OKayed by the AFL to talk about the AFL means they have to be careful not to upset the AFL for fear of not being accredited by the AFL next year.

All insidious rubbish and that's why sites like this get attacked by the AFL accredited Media.

True, but 3AW has more of a credibility problem than most. Its two figureheads for its football coverage, Rex Hunt(weekends) and Gerard Healy(weekdays) have had their credibility blasted into the stratasphere in recent times.

I am trying to think of some of the funnier Rexism's. He had to really reign them in a year or so back when ratings too an absolute pummeling. He was out of control at that stage with barking dogs and god knows what else. It had turned from football commentary into attempted comedy and self promotion.

The fat lady singing is always good value though.
 
Watching the '06 GF dvd with 3AW commentary on the other day, I found myself laughing at Rex moreso than watching the game.

Him hurling abuse at the Holden blimp, screaming BIG COX!! every time the ruckman had the ball or the banter between himself and the best commentator we've seen, Clinton Grybas, were all bloody hilarious.
 
I don't find his commentary funny at all, never have...I want to hear about the football, not listen to some immature inane twit carry on like a banshee:thumbsd:

Accident or not..., I dunno, the guy obviously doesn't think before he acts, and him as a former copper also, he strikes me as the typical copper of the time, of whom I've known a few, and were all crooks. Yeah I got no back up for that statement granted. What strikes me as his biggest sin was him making out for years on his show he was the devoted family man. Quite family orientated then to have an affair when the life is still recovering from cancer!

Is it too strong to say when 3AW did a cleanout a while back it should have been Rex and not Hutchy who got the boot? * Dare say Hutchy >>>> Rex. Thought I'd never say Hutchy would be better than anyone.
 
OMG what the hell is wrong with you guys.

there 's a reason why 3Aw have been no. 1 for so many years and that's because they don;t let footy turn into some organised and structured crap, they make something happen and go for it. Sometimes it doesn;t work out, but Rex is an icon of the game.

Switch over to your crappy old ABC or MMM and enjoy it if that's the way you like it.
 
Getting back on topic, a couple of my favourite 'Rexisms' would have to be 'Horney Torney' (Jason Torney) and 'Heavy Overnight Dew' (Stuart Dew).

Sadly he hasn't been the same since 3AW told him to tone it down. Rex Hunt at his absolute best was just hilarious to listen to.

Fan of Rex calling the Footy, Gives you are Laugh more then anything.

The scandal Defintally hurt him quite a bit and he lost tones of fans because of that.

I am still a Fan of his those.

How did you get that version? All I have is the finals compilation will the Channel 10 'commentary'.
 
"Rock Ling" for Cameron Ling

I used to love Rex, thought he was very entertaining. But all that sex scandal stuff and he has been to court a few times for absolutely losing it in public and assaulting people as well. I am thinking of the Byron Bay & Bicycle incidents. Now I still like to listen to him but he has lost credibility as another poster said

See that's what annoys me. I listen to a game primarily to know what's going on, play by play. Now I don't mind a bit of banter, but at the same time, I don't care what the commentator had for breakfast, hear some random dog bark when Rex mentions the dog, or hear any other inane mutterings.

And technically, they don't really make anything happen do they? Their calling doesn't change the result of a game does it?

I agree 100 per cent with this and other posts. Hunt has never been in any way amusing, as far as I'm concerned, and his sheer unprofessionalism, not to mention his crappy calling and refusal to place importance on getting names right, have always irritated me.
And just in case anyone jumps in with the usual "you don't have to listen", I don't.
Unfortunately I've had to on a couple of occasions in recent years because his was the only call of Sydney games I could get.
 
His retirement should be a distant memory but he's still at 3AW for some reason.

I actually enjoy his commentary when he isn't giving every single bloody player a nickname and just calls the football. But he's a senile old man and he can't keep it on the straight and narrow.

Needs to go already. I'd rather listen to a sheila commentate.
