Wondering if anyone could fill me in on how Rhyce was going? Has he performed well in time trials - has he played in any inter club games? Any ideas what type of role Roos has in mind for him?

Always was one of my favourite players and really hope he ends up having a great career with Sydney.

From a report i read a month or so ago apparently Rhyce Shaw is training his arse off and is working as hard if not harder than most of the other Swans. It looks like he really wants a spot in our first 22.

I always felt that Rhyce's skills actually put him up there as one of the highest (Top 8 or so) at the club. His speed and ability to work of his opponent is one of the best in the game. He always got plenty of the ball, but his issue seemed to be actually delivering the ball consistantly to its mark. He's very much a confidence player and only really affected his delivery - not actually getting his hands on the ball.

IMO he was very, very hard done by at Collingwood with selection in the team and i dont think it was because he wasn't our best 22, I think it was because the club expected him to perform as a Top 5 player always.

He will kill it at the Swans, if he can get his head right.

Smoky, thx for the input buddy :thumbsu:

However, how can he be in the top 8 for skills? Speed is not a skill. Granted, using that speed to advantage is.

He is obviously a poor kick and unfortunately he has more than a few mates at his new club. Speed however is not a commodity in abundance at Sydney and this was presumably the overriding factor in his recruitment via the trade process.

I have a few Pie supporting aquaintances whose opinion I respect immensely and they have also actually bemoaned the loss of Shaw, but they now see him as a tagger.

That's the role I hope that Roosy and co see him as well. IMO with Tadhg, Mattner and Eski we have rebounding backman covered in spades, but a tagging role frees up Keiran Jack and McVeigh who are both capable of being sensational attacking midfielders.

I guess we have to wait and see.

Yep, Jack especially, i think mcveigh has already begun that role.

Yep, spot on. McVeigh was given more of a licence to attack this year and the result was a B & F.

Kizza is definately suited in a similar role. There is no doubt in my mind that the role as a run with player he was given last season was the learning curve the match committee believed he needed to become a first rate attacking midfielder.

With Bird and Smith ready to take over from Kirk and Bolton as the in and unders in coming years, we are much better placed in the midfield then a lot of our supporters give us credit for.

Rhyce has always been one of the best trainers, always was at Collingwood. You'll always get effort and non stop running from him.

Sadly, he isn't terribly smart and has very average disposal.

He could excel in a tagging role imo, he tore Judd up last year.

I think for the first year he will be tagger,
then when kennelly leaves (:( ) he will be a rebounding defender... anyone else think this?

Paul Roos certainly likes his taggers. Next season we will have

Brett Kirk
Kieren Jack
Jared Crouch
Rhyce Shaw
Jarred McVeigh

All these guys are good taggers and all of them are either in the Swans best 22 or very close to being in it.

I would like to see it free up Keiran Jack. Showed alot of potential wasted on being a tagger (same with McVeigh till now)
