18 yo playing for Subi:
Unheralded 18-year old Rhys Waters was a star for the Lions, kicking four goals and collecting 25 disposals in his best performance at league level.
Waters produced two impressive goals from tight angles in the first quarter and kicked Subiaco’s only goal in a tense final term.

Unrelated, one time Pie Mark McGough was best afield:
With a minute remaining skipper McGough cleverly sidestepped an opponent and kicked truly to bridge the gap to a straight kick but Subiaco were able to hang on and end their six-game losing streak.

In his 50th game for East Fremantle, McGough worked hard to keep his side in the touch ...

Deserves a chance on an AFL list, best for Subiaco two weeks in a row. Definitely shows he could make it at AFL level.

Yeah he's good. Subiaco have some pretty unheralded players James Garcia and David Madut as over agers.

Kyle Halligan is another one who is pretty good.

Madut hasn't played since the super round.

Came off with a knee, hope it's not serious.

How do the ages of the guys mentioned compare? Have Garcia & Madut made the Subi League team.

Garcia is two months younger than Waters and hasn't made Leauge yet, but he should. He's a good size and is a good athlete. Strong overhead, reads the play well. I figured with Subiaco's shocking form he'd get the call up sooner or later.

David Madut is the same age as Waters was close to getting a call up for the U18 Champs as an over age player before his knee injury.

Halligan is a eligible this year, actually a pretty similar footballer to Waters as far one can be.

What's his kicking skills like?

Nothing special, he's also a bit slow.

Has a great goal sense and is physical when onball.

Horrible running gait, the question clubs face is elementary.

Take Deluca who also has a keen goal sense, a cannon for a left boot and physical approach or Waters who is slow, an average kick but a is also physical.

Has Deluca been listed on this thread? I'm Melbourne based, dont know him.

He's playing in the 18's at the moment, played league earlier in the year and performed well.

There's a reason why Waters was overlooked. I hope he gets a chance but he's going to need sustained performance for the remainder of the year to have any chance.

Not sure if you have seen Waters play lately, but he is definitely a lot faster then what everyone gives him credit for, as he showed against East Freo and Perth. Also fair to say he has a better kick then average, especially on his set shot.[/quote]

No, he's an average kick.

He is not explosive when running, if he were as good a kick or "a lot faster" than I give him credit for he would have been drafted.

I wish him no ill will, but there's generally a reason why kids get looked over, Waters just doesn't have a weapon.

Again, wish the boy no ill will.

But middle paced is just another word for average, and average doesn't get you on an AFL list.

Look at Josh Hill, he hardly dominated junior football, but he's an athletic freak, it's the way the game is headed, sadly.

Its the way the game was headed, i tend to believe that the game now is towards the end of the "pick the more athletic player" cycle and into the way of "pick the more footy smart player". Its a pretty cruel cycle really, with players not fitting into the cycle at the time but 5 years later/earlier they would have been picked.

3rd week in a row Waters has been named in the best now for Subi, in the past 3 weeks averages over 20 disposals a game and has kicked 7 goals. Good signs from the youngster

Madut won't play for the rest of the year he has a partially torn ACL.
Halligan has been having an good year so far and should be on the verge of a call up.
Garcia from what I have seen shouldn't be to far from a League game.
