Richard Tambling- what can I say? He is one player never given a real chance and when he has he has been incorrectly played in the backlines and performed serviceably. TODAY PROVES what I have been saying for two year. His pace and agility needs to be let of a leash and the same applies for Brodie Martin, they are not defenders who should be minding a player but should be playing from centre to forward or forward of centre so they can use their speed and lateral movement.

Todays goal by Tambling demonstrated what he is capable of. He has an attribute which we lack at Adelaide and that is speed and the ability to break from a pack with speed.Defenders are normally players who have played this position from their early days in their careers and their natural instinct is to mind players. Tambling and Brodie are players in the mould of David Makay. who can run and carry and apart from a few games for Richard and half a game for Brodie have been given little or no chance to prove themselves. Tambling's goal today was a beaut and shows what can be done if a player is given a chance and confidence is instilled in them.

I think a smart move for Adelaide would be to trade Makay to melb as we could get a second rounder for him. For speed and ball carrying on the wing I seriously think we would lose nothing by giving Richard and Brodie a shot in this position and but gain a pick that we can use on either another forward (key) or a young developing ruckman. In my opinion we now have another gun in Grigg thus our midfield looking in good shape with Sloane, Danger, Grigg, Crouch- all class. We also have workmanlike Kerridge who I don't think will ever be a star but should be working to replace Van Berlo permanently in the side. Young Laird on the other hand I think should be pushing to play more roles in the middle as well- he is so close to ground level, has great balance, skills and decision making and it a Pitt Terrior. I think our club is in Good shape. Lets hope Tex can regain his lateral movement after this injury as he is a big guy. I say new contract for Tambling.

He's looked OK against Melbourne, then a seriously depleted and disinterested West Coast. Delist 100% for mine.

I fully agree.

He has had his time and sadly failed at two clubs, as much as he wasn't given a chance here.

Time to move on and forget about him.

He also looked pretty good against Geelong for the most part but other than that he hasn't been given a fair shot this year (or any season at the Crows for that matter).

Face it, Brodie Martin is not good enough to play at AFL level. Move on. Given you spent the first half of this year trying to sh*t on Kerridge in half the posts you made, I don't think you're the best evaluator of talent.

WE CANNOT GET A SECOND ROUNDER FOR MOOKAY. WHY WOULD ANYONE THINK THAT? A 25 year old wingman who hasn't improved in four years does not have very much currency.

Tambling kicking a good goal against a poor team ultimately doesn't mean sh*t. It was a nice goal, and I really hope it gives him some confidence, because I really feel for the bloke given all the shit his gotten in his career. I agree we should keep him next year, but there are reasons he was so heavily criticised after playing 100 games at Richmond. There are legitimate issues with his game, and personally I just don't think he uses the ball well enough to be played as a permanent wingman. Brodie Smith is a younger, and better, option, if we can find a rebounder to take his role.

And plenty of AFL level defenders haven't started their careers as defenders. Our full back of the last 10 years started his career as a forward.

Happy to have him stay on less money and a 1 year contract as others have mentioned, ahead of a few on our list who aren't developing and cant realistically provide backup, if it comes to stay or pick 1278. However if we need room on the list for something after a few others have gone I wouldn't be overly disappointed.

Mate and you would know. |What are you making a judgement on Brodie from. The last quarter he played in the wet this year and had nine disposals in which he shanked a few. What has Kerridge done that is so wonderful- is it because he has blonde hair. Had one strong game where he kicked a bag of goals and I was at that game. The rest of his field game on that day was average and was actually mad to look better on TV due to the one dimensional view you get on telly. He was dropped for a reason mate, his positioning was poor and his in close and in traffic work early on was poor. I actually think his last few games have been an improvement. As for a second rounder for mackay- people forget that most second round picks don't even make a career out of football soI don't know why people rate picks so high these days- its a lottery and nothing more. Pick 30-40 is nothing more than a 40-60 chance of getting a decent player.

Shows how much you know mate, like too many other people on Big Footy. Ben Rutten started as a forward for the Crows and moved to defence but he actually played the majority of his SANFL and junior footy as a centre half back. Don't start a footy argument with me mate- you will lose every time

He's worth another year at least, better than anything we would pick up late in the draft.

It would be no tragedy to lose him. But I would keep Tambling on for another year, particularly if he asks for less cash. Callinan too.

Adelaide have a lot of cash dollars in cap space to spend, it should go on another actual defender to give these not-really-defensive players more room to move.

I wonder what our plans were for him when we traded for him. I know everyone should earn their place and all that but I just feel if your going to bring an experienced player into the club you should have a plan for him to improve the 22 and not just one of several players in the mix for selection on a week to week basis, unless of course the plan genuinely is as backup.

And if we did have a plan for him what were the expectations and why didn't it work out. Seems like its a case of doing a trade to say we've done a trade and got a name to the club.

He was probably brought in to do what he's been doing in his recent run of form.

If you summarised any one of his years, theres always a mitigating circumstance. In his first year he was scapegoated by Neil Craig, who had no interest in anything except covering his own rear at the time. Second year the team was doing well and there was no spot for him. Third year he had limited opportunities and made the most of them.

I know the guys had a lot of bad luck (I remember in his first game he conceded a 50m penalty and goal after playing on when the field umpire pointed the wrong way for a free kick.) and I'd accept that even good players could have a year like any one of his, I wouldn't expect a quality player to be unable to overcome all 3.

Tambling isn't a complete spud despite what some people believe. The problem is that his output is not at the level expected of an experienced player with over 100 games experience.

To be fair though. I'd much rather give him another year than Jaensch.

This is it really. He probably hasn't done anything to warrant another year, but when you're handing out contracts to guys like Jaensch and Joyce, then why not? At least Tambling actually has talent, even if he is a mental basketcase.

If Jaensch played his football like he types on his keyboard, he'd still be on our list at seasons end.

Oops, googled it, was wrong about Truck, but regardless, plenty of AFL defenders haven't played their junior football as defenders. If you aren't good enough to play as a permanent midfielder, you need to bring something else to the table.

And I agree, Kerridge was dropped for a reason. He played two poor games in a row. But he is also 20 years old, and he's had a six goal game, games where he's basically completely nullified the influence of Griffin and Birchall, and another game where he had almost 30 touches and 3 goals (against GWS, but still). And what does him being blonde have to do with anything? And why would you be upset that a crows player was doing well? Because he is getting a game

I really feel for Martin. Had he not done his knee I think he'd probably easily be a member of our 22. BUT he's almost 25. Since coming back from his knee, there has been basically no improvement. Stop pretending that if he came into the team he'd have 25 touches and 2 goals a game. He is an ok, but not great player.

With the Mookay for second round pick, no one is pretending that all second rounders turn into good footballers, but a 40-60 chance is still greater than the chance Mookay has of turning around his career.

I wonder if he could be used as a trade for say a Polec, Brisbane have a good amount of young talent, and with guys like Black and McGrath near the end of their careers he might make a good addition.

I think he's been treated poorly in his time at Adelaide and for the life of me I can't work out why we traded for him, I can imagine it would be frustrating for him to see Jaensch and Mackay get so many opportunities before he gets his chance.

Almost certain keep, for depth. Gets a one year deal, and we'll see.

Tambling is trading on potential at 26, that is a real big issue.

It also worries me that it has taken 3 years for him to work out that he can run faster than other people so why not run and kick the goal. Not adverse to keeping him on minimum wage but he should be on yearly contracts from now on

He's only trading on potential because he's never been given a decent crack at it. With consistent games he'll probably get better. There's a couple in our side that rarely perform at his current level even with the benefit of their gold pass.
