Tambling, Tambling, Tambling...

Man this boy frustrates me. Not because he hasn't been as good as Franklin and was taken higher. But because he more class secrets from his balls then most other Tiger players could ever hope for. He has a sweet par of hands and good skills and run, but he simply doesn't get enough of it. He is a smaller, younger version of Jay Schultz.

Last night was a true example of what I'm talking about. Took a couple of great marks, kicked some important goals, but still didn't have the impact he should have.

Is it a stupid idea suggesting he should actually play a game or 2 at Coburg, esspeacially as we won't win next week anyway, and really dominate in the lower grades as a better learning expirence?

He also wont chase when going after another player that has the ball. Weak Tambling.

Have to agree with this. Doesnt matter how much talent you have, you still gotta do the basics.

My 2 cents, Deledio for discipline and footy smarts is miles ahead of Tambling and it will probably stay that way for the rest of their respective careers. Deledio is future captain material and makes Tambling look second rate

Ive always thought he put in efforts when the opposition has the ball. You cant expect him to show blistering pace every single time he doesnt have the ball

He just played his 42nd game and we forget that. Give him more time. I'm actually thinking he will be a great player. 1 more preseason and he will be ready. Watch for some more games this year like the west Coast first QTR.

He looks like he isn't enjoying his footy.

He should be released into the midfield. He gets a lot of negative energy from footy fans, but he has game breaking capabilities. He is just never played in a position where he can get enough footy to be this. Let him loose Wallace.

The arguement will be his defensive skills arn't good enough, well you couldn't be any worse off, so it's time to give him a chance and leave him in the middle, let him get the footy.

We should give him more bursts in the midfield. He was very good in the last quarter for mine, both when he was up forward presenting and that little spurt he had in the centre.

And why do people continously harp on the fact that he doesn't chase enough, when its obvious he does? They're going on some silly stereotype of him after the first year. What about his awesome tackle in the last quarter? Probably saved us from losing that match.

we'll push freo all the way as usual

Thing that annoys me about him is that there is very little intensity about him. Even when he's dominating it just doesn't appear as if he's getting out of 2nd gear. Mind you I wasn't very impressed against the Bombers when I literally saw him jog slowly after his opponent who ended up getting on the end of a series of handballs 10 meters in the clear and delivering inside 50.

He still looks like he could be anything its just a matter of applying himself entirely and building up the defensive side of his game whilst also trying to really hurt the opposition with his possesions which i don't feel he really does enough. I'd be tempted to put him on a half back flank and try and play him in a McCloed role to learn that defensive side, or maybe even as a bit of a run with player in the middle going head to head with his opponent and tell him Richie you've got to get 10 more possies than him and kick 3 more goals see what that does to him.

Man some of you guys have no idea who this "Richard Tambling" fella is. :thumbsd:

Tackling is a KEY FEATURE of his game and always has been. Look back over his drafting profiles if you want to ignore the fact that he is one of Richmonds top tacklers in 2007..... while playing with an injured shoulder, still skinny, limited game time and only 1 full pre season.

The reason he doesn't chase down every single player and make every single contest isn't because of lazyness - it is fitness. He needs another 2 pre seasons to reach peak fitness and until then he will play in bursts whether you like it or not.

Those questioning his work ethic have short memories. How can you finish 4th in the NAB Training Challenge if you don't have an incredible work ethic? Nathan Foley was 2nd, Howat 3rd and going by your constant "lazy" remarks you wouldn't believe who came in first now would you.

Players with loads of talent and average fitness will always appear to be lazy.

Tambling runs out of puff sooner than his opponents (who have usually been playing footy for 7-8 years) so give him another year or two and he'll be able to play the way that had Terry Wallace giggling like a school girl when he slipped through to pick 4. Untill then Bling will be playing a different style of game. He can't physically play his natural game for another year or two.

Don't worry about him. When he's playing his natural game nothing will stop him. Tambling will tear teams apart. Watch out, what you see now is a variation that he is forced to play because he is not physically fit enough or strong enough yet.

I'll stand by my belief that Richard Tambling will in the long run be the best player to come out of the Wallace era. I would say Deledio, but Tambling is a lot better at breaking a tag. Riewoldt should be up with Tambling in time too.

Great post, benny. He's getting games and game-time under his wheels. One Saturday morning in a few years time we'll wake up and be going off to see his 100th game, especially if the hammy injuries which ruined his first two seasons stay in remission. Better than adequate progress this season.

Man this boy frustrates me. Not because he hasn't been as good as Franklin and was taken higher.

Only one position higher though. Besides, the gap between he and Franklin has closed markedly over the last month.

On Tambling you're wrong Benny....
You say "Tambling will do this" or "will do that"..
He doesn't now, and never will.

Not sure about never will. Tambling has talent but unfortunately Benny's love child isnt as great as he would like to think. Benny pumps him up everytime he gets within 5 metres of the ball like he is the next saviour. And his work rate compared to a Deledio is actually quite poor. Can see Tambling as a burst player such as Leon Davis but I doubt if the Tigers recruiting staff had that sort of player in mind when they picked him up.

i actually think tambling has been one of our better players - he certainlyis starting to up the tempo .

we are screwed fella's. when cogs went down - players like tambo and deledio became sitting ducks in our midfield. if tambling was playing at any of the other 15 clubs right now, he would be getting praise everywhere - playing as a marking running forward flanker, and being a damaging rotation midfielder. a 2 goal a game - 4 In50, and 15-20 possesion player. an x-factor, game winner etc.

infact if we had won a few games this year, we would also be calling him a match winner.

don't get dirty on the kids because we lack midfield experience and leadership. 20-21 years olds aren't meant to be carrying the midfield this early

Tambling doesnt need pressure.

I like him better than Pettifer.

I like him better than Krakouer.

Lay off him. He'll come good. He has got late bloomer written all over him

Some of you think this is how he is and how he always will be.

In junior years he was a full time natural midfielder.

It was common to see him getting 28 possies, 9 tackles, 8 clearances, 2 goals and a bunch of inside 50's.

He is playing in forward pockets, wings, backline the other night and bursts in the middle.

He won't be the player we drafted him to be until he has the actual fitness and strength to spend 100 minutes in the middle ;)

So he's going to be a Midfield Champion?.....hmmmm

So does Schulz have 'late bloomer' written all over him?
Meyer?
JON?
Moore?
What are the indicators of 'late blooming' I should look out for?
Please give us a hint.

You cant expect too much of him at this stage of his career. Having said that, the worrying sign for Tambling is the gap between his best and worst is huge. When he is on song he can kick multiple goals in a quarter but he can go missing for 2 or 3 quarters or a few weeks at a time. He also doesnt have the physique required to play consistently in the middle.

I am of the same opinion with Roughead. While he is great for our structure, I don't think he has performed up to expectations and whether he will be the champion we hoped for, its pretty unlikely. Tambling is in the same boat.

That's what I hate the most, that he is so inconsistent, he will have the right physique for the wing but something hasnt clicked. I wish it would. :(

I think it is most accurate to draw a line between Roughead and Tambling at the moment. Both show how good they can be but overall they dont do it enough.

But I'm sure Tambling will click, I dont know if Roughead will because I havent seen enough of him but Boyle has taken over his potential position this season.
