Richmond unveiled its VFL/AFL Centenary plans at last Saturday’s final home-and-away round match against St Kilda at the MCG.

The Tigers’ CEO Steven Wright outlined some of the key plans for the 2008 Centenary year to assembled guests at the Club’s various pre-game functions.

A special Centenary logo has been designed and it will appear on the players’ guernseys and all Club merchandise throughout the year.

The main feature of the league Centenary year will be a huge weekend of celebrations (date to be announced in the next few weeks once the 2008 AFL fixture has been finalised).

On the Friday night, there will be a gala dinner, where the 10 defining moments in Richmond Football Club’s league football history will be announced.

These 10 defining moments will be chosen from a list of 100 golden moments (10 categories, with 10 nominations in each category) as voted on by Tiger supporters and a panel of experts.

On the Saturday, there will be an all-day party at Punt Road, before the action moves to the MCG, where the Tigers will play a traditional rival, wearing the same guernseys the players wore when they took the field for the first time in the then VFL competition, back in 1908.

This Centenary clash will be called “100G at the G’, with the Club aiming to fill the grandstands at the famous ground, which has been its home venue since 1965.

There’s a host of other activities planned (details to be released over the next few months) for what shapes as a memorable year of celebrations at Tigerland.

Wright also announced that Auslab, Australia’s leading provider of laboratory and diagnostic computer systems, will be Richmond’s Centenary partner.

Auslab is owned by PJA Solutions, whose Managing Director, Philip Allison, is a key member of the Tigers’ historical and museum committee.

Anyways, this will make it an awesome occasion, huge crowd, great spectacle and should be a great game. Richmond supporters will flood Melbourne on that day, I would assume...the city will be yellow and black...

to be honest i am suprised melbourne wasnt picked for the game because they were our first ever opponents oh well much more fun beating that swine of a football club carlton i guess.

to be honest i am suprised melbourne wasnt picked for the game because they were our first ever opponents oh well much more fun beating that swine of a football club carlton i guess.

not enough melbourne supporters would get to the game to make it a spectacle at least if we play the Blues we would expect 60000 to 70000 under normal circumstances. Add an occasion and we might get another 10000 to 15000.
