There was a thread on chants half way through last year I believe. Half the people said it would be great, half didnt if I remember correctly. I would love it. I know the game doesnt NEED it blah blah blah who cares. It would be ****n epic to get into the other teams with chants IMO.

To the tune of english national anthem

"God save our Push Up King

Sometimes it does but with the increasing amount chipping the ball backwards to then switch only to chip back again ive found games to become increasingly boring these days.
There is certainly periods in matches where nothing is happening at all.

pretty sure there's plenty of time to chant

or do you get too excited about ball ups, throw ins and players chipping the ball around to keep possession ;)

Not to the extent of Soccer chants. The chipping around the backline is

1. Too risky when richmond is involved to just stop concentrating and start belting a chant out. and
2. Not really long enough to get to a Punchline before the Ball is being hurled into the pointy end of the ground and not one would give a stuff.

Ditto with Ball ups and Throw Ins. Many throw ins happen before the Ruck's are ready they happen that fast.

Having said that, My greatest memory of a AFL match at the G was when the Tiger army were chanting the Barmy/tiger Army chant the whole way through the 3 qtr time break, had the whole crowd going. Fantastic to hear.
 
yeah you're right, maybe after a goal? replace the 'richmond! clap-clap-clap' with some cool chants to pump the players up.

i've only heard one chant from the cheer squad and its awful, like seriously, a 6 year old probably wrote the lyrics. its like wagga wagga wagga, whiskers on your tiger tiger, razza, razza, rah rah rah. first time i heard it i thought the bloke was drunk and making it up off the top of his head.

i've heard some good chants in the grog squad, after the game they sing some good chants too
 
No offense to our cheersquad but it should be up to them to get the crowd around them up and cheering. The grog squad do a great job with their chants, but would be good to get the 40,000 tigers fan singing the same chant at the same time.
The game I remember was the Geelong Richmond prelim 95. I'm pretty sure the grog squad stood up the back and started the Tiger Army chant and sang the whole 3/4 break. Even tho we were losing the whole crowd joined it and it was awesome.

So chants do work at the right time.

The tiger army one is my favourite. I always remember that one from when I was a kid going to the footy in the 90s.
