Brothers of Destruction
In the last 10 years, 24 teams have started the season 3-0.

Out of those sides, only FOUR have missed the finals.
Carlton 2012, Essendon 2012, Brisbane 2010, North Melbourne 2004
If we're doing percentages, Richmond have an 84% chance of making finals.

  • The last time Richmond went 3-0 was 1995. They made finals.
  • The last time before 1995 that Richmond started a season 3-0 was 1982 (I shit you not) They made the Grand Final.
  • The last time before 1982 that Richmond started the season 3-0 was 1973.
    They won the Premiership.
  • The last time before 1973 that Richmond started the season 3-0 was in 1966. They were suffering a long finals drought in that year. Guess who broke their streak in Round 4?
Collingwood! Two of the teams Richmond beat between Round 1-3 were Carlton & Western Bulldogs. Richmond beat Carlton by 6 points, they beat the Dogs by 70. In 2013 Richmond beat Carlton by 5 points and Western Bulldogs by 67. In fact the Carlton scoreline in Round 1 1966 was 100-106, 47 years later it was 101-106. Guess where Richmond finished that year? 5th. 2 points out of the finals race, higher on percentage. They won the premiership and broke their finals drought the following year in 1967.
  • All years Richmond have finished 3-0 in their history.
  • 2013 (????)
  • 1995 (Preliminary Final)
  • 1982 (Grand Final)
  • 1973 (Premiership)
  • 1966 (Emerging team, finished 5th, won premiership next year)
  • 1958 (Third Last - Collingwood won Premiership)
  • 1944 (Grand Final)
  • 1942 (Grand Final)
  • 1941 (Semi Finals)
  • 1939 (Semi-Finals)
  • 1934 (Premiership)
  • 1931 (Semi Finals)
  • 1920 (Premiership)
  • 1919 (Grand Final)

We have made finals 11 times and we haven't made finals 2 times. That's an 84% chance of making finals. We've won three premierships. In 105 years of football we have started the season 3-0 fourteen times.

Or we finish 5th.Home final , i will take that. And the flag in 2014 you bloody beauty!

and in 66 our wins tally would have seen us play finals in almost every other year in league history..66 was a great year with a young enthusiastic team full of lairs and older heads, playing a new brand of footy under Tom Hafey...the swinging sixties!

making the 8 like back in 1958.

oh wait. :(
I think we beat Fiztroy and Collingwood early that year and they had been finalists the year before...it was all looking so rosey..then Ronnie Branton got injured and it all went to shit..then again, it was a long time ago and my memory gets a little hazy.

Man that's some research Probably doesnt mean alot but an interesting read :)
Checked the Almanac...seems like I was mistaken...then again, this was when Roger was a young recruit and you could walk out on the ground during each quarter time break and listen to the coach's address

Great to hear the Richmond fans finding their voice. It's been too long since we had you mob in finals
