It's official according to the HUN.

The competition's other new coach, Richmond's Damien Hardwick, will have a baptism of fire in his debut, playing against one of last year's finalists, Carlton.

It is the second successive season the Tigers and the Blues will start the season on a Thursday night.

In the corresponding game last year, Richmond suffered a season-destroying 83-point loss before 86,972 fans.

.......and may I express my disappointment in Alpha1 for not posting this before me...........you are slipping. :p :D

Despite everything that happened this year, the 83 points at the start of the year when many tiger people thought they where a top 4 chance, is still one of the most satisfying moments for me. Top 3 easy. Lets hope history repeats

What date is this (might fly over), weekend before easter?

Another first up Bleakmond game. Not exactly exciting. Richmond should be playing the Melbourne Tankers Round 1 - these 2 teams have developed a rivalry now. Anyway, I do note the Tiges trimmed their 31+ year players from 6 back to 3. Still going into 2010 with a remarkably old starting 22. They just can't bite the bullet and do a full rebuild for some reason. Doesn't matter how many times they bottom out. Blues 2010 round 1 side is going to be incredibly inexperienced without Judd, Fev and Stevens, and will have to adjust fast. The Tiges will be going in with 3 players in the 32 to 35 year old group. This would have to be the Tiges best chance of beating the Blues for several years. If they can't do it this game, they never will.

:)

the HUN says it's an away game and so is the round 2 gabba match against FEV so we won't get a home match until round 3, probably against Essendon (shudder at the sound of the name).

Should hopefully get our season off to a good start with Fev and judd not playing, Shaun Hampson to full forward.

Its interesting that we are again the away team for the season opener. Would have thought they would alternate each year. Not sure this game vs the tiges will amount to much for a few years at least considering they have embarked on THE REBUILD MARK III. Their suppoorters (deliberate) have been psychologically scarred after RD1 this year.

I thought we alernated home games with Richmond in round 1, meaning that it should be our home game in 2010.
I believe there is some special deal between the two clubs regarding gate receipts in order to keep the season opener between the two of us. It was also the reason why the Richmond-Collingwood annual season opener went awry- Richmond got greedy and Collingwood wouldnt stand for it.

I believe we are more amenable to the Tigers' demands.

Anyone know more/different and can correct me if wrong?

They are already talking about revenge and how they are gonna pump us without Judd and Fevola over on the Richmond board.

6 months before the season :D :D :D

Annual Richmond wankfest is well and truly on before the reality hits yet again :o

Well I am not as confident as the previous 2 years however we have much more talent than they do. I am sure Ratts will have the new game plan working by round 1.

No surprises there and it was exactly the same in Feb this year leading up to Rd 1.

We should comfortably account for them i would think even without Juddy.

Without Fev this time round, Richmond should get within 10-11 goals.

Round one team:

Backs: Joseph Jamison Thornton
H-Backs: Russell Bower Scotland
Centres: Walker McLean Simpson
H-Forwards: Yarran Waite Robinson
Forwards: Betts Henderson Kreuzer
Rucks: Warnock Gibbs Murphy
I/C: Hampson Joseph Hadley Austin

Swap Aussie for Garlett and we have a good team to tackle the rabble.:thumbsu:

I thought about Garlett, but I like the versatility of having Austin in the team, who can play forward and back. I also realised that Carrazzo isn't in there either. Could possibly replace Hadley in the team, particularly with McLean in the team.
