I didn't know that runners couldn't place bets.

Here's the article on Herald Sun site:
Tiger runner banned for bets Al Paton From: Herald Sun June 08, 2010 6:40PM
RICHMOND has suspended a runner for placing three bets on AFL games this season.
Part-time runner Justin Quill has been banned for six weeks.

The Tigers released a statement late today saying the AFL had approved of the penalty and would not take any further action.

totally agree Tugga , strange set up this. I think he was only suspended because he was silly enough to bet on us. We can't have morons like that around the club.

No, it's the fair and just thing to do. Next thing he'll be snorting Wizz Fizz or going to a pub or something else sinister. I say let's rid the game of these loose cannons before the game implodes.

But seriously if you can't do it why put on a 5 buck bet or if so do it down at the tab so you dont get caught.

Secondly do not dob yourself in....wow!!!!

you can't have grey areas here. if you're formally associated with a club you can't bet on footy. black and white. i have no sympathy for him. dumb!

the same people who say we should name and shame drug using AFL players are probably the same knobs who ring up 3AW a say we should have a zero tolerance on crime. The drug policy is about the players personal lives and has nothing really to do with the competition. Placing bets on footy threatens the integrity of the competition and is correctly treated harshly

Absolutely stupid that a runner can get that kind of suspension BUT he knew the rules, Any affiliates of any club or board cannot bet on matches.

He is an idiot for even betting $5.

What's so wrong with a zero tolerance on crime? Or at least harsher sentences for voilent crime?
For what it's worth, the three strikes drug policy is a joke. IMO it should be one chance and then if you get caught a 2nd time, you're out.

do you want to live in a society where you are fined for every jwalking offence, for every speeding offence, every public urination or drunk and disorder offence? The 3 strike policy is commended by all the experts as it helps the players. As for community standards... bah, it would even be an issue if the sensationalist media didnt always cry out rage and stir up the small minded.
