was just checking on some domain names and saw that richmondtigersfc.com is for sale at 80thousand dollars. same with collingwoodmagpiesfc.com are they worth that much? its not like they need a new domain but found that expensive.

Can anyone but the 2 respective clubs legally use the domain names? If anybody else traded under either name how long would it take before they received a letter from the club's lawyers?
Ok so I'm just guessing here, but if that were the case, then would this make the domain names useless to anyone else holding on to them?

For .com .net etc names there are no restrictions as to who can own them.
For .com.au ,.net.au ,etc you need to prove some connection to the domain name.
Those domain prices are mad. They will never be sold at that price. It's hardly worth a pinch of shit really.
You can get richmondtigersfc.net for $22

Of course they can. Anyone can register whatever domain name they want provided it's available for purchase.
Like CallMeAl said, if it's .com.au or .net.au you need to prove you've got an ABN to register it.
