Anyone seen this yet? Had mixed reviews in the US. I'm a big fan of Heat, but I'm not sure if this will be in the same class, with both DeNiro and Pacino playing good guys. Or are they?
I get the feeling they are just going through the motions in this one.

I did the naughty to get an early viewing. I couldn't help myself with De Niro and Pacino together.

This sprayed the bowl like nothing I remember in recent memory. The script was an atrocity, I can't believe the same guy that wrote Inside Man, wrote this. Even worse it looked cheap, I've seen more expensive looking episodes of Law & Order CI.

Even the acting was phoned in, there was little to work with, but if I'd neve heard of anyone in this flick before, just walked in and sat down, I'd think they were all direct to video actors.

And the ending FFS :thumbsd::thumbsd: Let's do a clever homage *cough* ripoff.

If you love De Niro and Pacino and you don't want the great memories of them sprayed with shit stains, I'd advise to stay well away.

Interesting. Pretty much confirms my thoughts from the trailer and reviews I'd read. Shame really, what a waste of talent

Man, I'm like the biggest fan of Heat you can imagine. I felt like I was being constantly stabbed with a jagged knife throughout.

Due to spoilers I won't talk about the ending, but it was an effing disgrace.

When was the last time those 2 didn't phone-in a movie?

I read today De Niro is teaming up with Scorsese again for another New York mobster movie, perhaps he can drag a good one out of old Bobby..

Tim Burton has Johnny Depp, Fellini had Mastroianni, and Scorsese has DeNiro. There's nothing that excites me more than when I hear that a director is teaming up with his or her muse--the one actor that can capture said director's vision like no one else.

The duo that brought us MEAN STREETS, CAPE FEAR, TAXI DRIVER, RAGING BULL, GOODFELLAS, CASINO, THE KING OF COMEDY and NEW YORK, NEW YORK are at it again with Paramount's I HEARD YOU PAINT HOUSES. The really, really good news is that this is Scorsese's and DeNiro's bread and butter--it's a gangster flick.

The film, which is to be adapted from a book by Steve Zaillian (SCHINDLER'S LIST) is about the mob assassin who many believe was involved in the death of Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa. Naturally, DeNiro will play Frank "the Irishman" Sheeran, who is said to have carried out more than 25 mob murders. Gee, DeNiro as a mob hitman. I can't see it.

they couldnt do no wrong u would think:thumbsu:

It's because everyone expects another epic. Heat was enough for me, not that that was epic, but a great movie.

You can't take anything away from their careers, and you can't blame them for teaming up for a movie this late in their careers - if their acting is solid, it's not their fault the directing/writing is average, and from what I've heard, the story is pretty thin, and the twists predictable.

Probably will wait for DVD to give it a shot.

Also happened to catch an early viewing and fully agree with the above review. It was total garbage from start to finish; even with this cast it felt like a straight-to-DVD standard.

A poor job all around but special mention should be made of director Jon Avnet who directed in such a pointlessly flashy (but not stylish) manner that it was as if Michael Winner had returned to directing.

Just watched it on DVD (Just back from Thailand, so picked up a few dodgies).

Wish I could tell you guys who are expecting this to be brillian any different than the above reviews, but I have to agree totally. Probably one of the biggest let downs I have had in movies. You could have taken the two greatest (De Niro and Pacino) out, and made this with any two bit 2nd raters for half the price. Had that B grade thriller about it throughout. The story was all over the place, and the ending was somewhat predictable.

I usually take trailers with a grain of salt, because they have a tendency to misrepresent the film, but finally getting the gumption to watch it confirmed what I thought all along - that it's a downright shocker. It must've been a tough temporary stint on the unemployment line for these acting legends at the time.

An A-list cast do not maketh a movie.
