Another comedy genius has departed from this world, Duds, I will remember you forever with my Clive & Derek albums, one funny but yet again tortured soul.:(

Well, at least Peter Cooke has someone to drink with up in Heaven.

LMAO, yeah right, and I believe in heaven too. Hope he gets to meet the tooth fairy while he's there

Yet another comedian (albeit, vaudeville) has departed - Milton Berle died today too.

With all due respect I don't think you could call Dudley Moore a comic genius.

He rode the coat tails of a true genius in Peter Cook. But he did get to set up one of the best ever comic lines in the the "One legged Tarzan" sketch.

Excuse me for not getting teary over the death a man guilty of the worst forms of domestic violence on his ex wife.

Was just about to add my post lauding Dudley Moore's part in the Derek and Clive albums, then saw the post from blurton. I didn't know anything about this. While I will still pay my respects to Moore's contribution to those comedy skits (and in some other arenas), I will reserve judgement of the man until I learn more about what it has just been alleged he got up to on the home front.

Okay here's one article (from 'People', I think). This comes from http://people.aol.com/people/news/specialreport/0,10958,220639,00.html

"He said he was waiting to die," Moore's estranged wife Nicole Rothschild told the TV show Extra in June 1998, and that "there was really nothing left for him here." Rothschild, Moore's fourth wife, had previously filed a lawsuit against her husband, charging him with assault, battery and domestic violence. She dropped the charges that year when she discovered how ill he had become.

Ok here's another, Dallas News, from http://www.dallasnews.com/latestnews/stories/032702dnartdudleymoore.18154f42.html

In recent years, the 5-foot-2-inch comic actor suffered career setbacks plus a rash of negative publicity, including charges of domestic violence from his estranged wife, Nicole Rothschild. He underwent open-heart surgery in September 1997.

And this from 20/20, at http://neuro-www.mgh.harvard.edu/forum_2/ParkinsonsDiseaseF/11.20.998.34PMReDudleyMoo.html ... which (full article) mentions he showed signs of PSP 5 years ago (1997) and the litigation re domestic violence were aged about 1998.

Married and divorced four times, to beauties like Tuesday Weld and Suzy Kendall, the 5-foot-2 actor went through a searing divorce in November 1998, from Rothschild, who sued him for assault, battery and domestic violence, later dropping the charges.

The don't say a lot about the actual domestic violence, though it does mention in these articles that the charges were dropped, therefore he couldn't have been found guilty. I haven't heard the alleged extent of the abuse, hence can't comment on what is meant by worst forms of domestic violence. Also, through the comparison of dates, it sounds like he was losing faculties fast at the time these allegations came up. Perhaps, due to disease, he had little control over his actions.

Opinion 1 : Rothschild's action in dropping the charges when learning he was crook, seem to point toward there definitely being something to it. If she was just after a payout, she'd probably not have turned tail just because he was not long for the world. Sounds a bit more like she actually, simply, would have liked to have seen him made accountable for his actions.
Opinion 1 : Perhaps Rothschild was looking for a payout, and, learning he was on his way out, changed tact, considering that by making a friendly gesture, she could end up with a bigger payout through inheritance than she would otherwise have received via litigation.

I'm fully against domestic violence, but I'll need to see more evidence on this facet of Dudley's life before I choose to take a stance of believing he got what he deserved.

RIP Dudley.

RIP Dudley. :( He and the brilliant Peter Cook produced some of the best comedy I have seen or heard!!!!! And he really showed what he can do in 'Arthur'..........a man who never failed to make me laugh, will be sadly missed. :(

I know that Dudley never had to answer the allegations made against him in court however, that doesn't mean he wasn't guilty. I for one think he was. Nicole appears to have honest motives for her disclosures, particulalry as she withdrew them when she knew how sick he was.

Dudley's violence included perverse sexual demands and significant physical attacks.

You can read the allegations made on this site www.thesmokinggun.com

Have just read the 5 pages from the document referred to at smoking gun.

If the allegations were true, then of course its abominable. But, once again, these are allegations, never proven, nor adjudicated by a court to be true.

Therefore the reports of alleged violence included perverse sexual demands and significant physical attacks.

I'm still not ready to make the same call you have, though I definitely do not rule out that it is quite possible. Nor would I wish to be found stating opinion in such a way as "Dudley's violence included perverse sexual demands and significant physical attacks", as I believe I would be hauled up on charges of prejudicing the jury.

The Courts are still out on this one.

Very good point Mobbers. It's very different to me sitting here and saying that Mike Love is unfairly blocking Al Jardine from using the Beach Boys name, and the entire court case was a joke. For those of us who have seen the leaked court documents, there is more than proof enough.

:D

OOOOOOH I'd love to say more!!!!!!! :D
